A month or so ago I was contacted randomly on Twitter by a guy named Dan Schwartz. We chatted a bit and it was a somewhat interesting conversation but the guy was obviously closed minded, ignorant and opinionated. When he called someone a cu*t I un-followed him. When he started going off on someone about Deaf culture, I blocked him. I figured that

whatever my *personal* feelings are about deaf children and CIs, and what that means in the grand scheme of things, i know it's about actual *individuals* in *families* that are not my own.

just like i would never tell another woman what choice to make when they are weighing pregnancy options, i would never tell parents or children that whatever decision they make is wrong. i really don't think there is a 'right' answer, except when outrageously incorrect information is being doled out. that actually hurts people.

needless to say, i stay the fuck away from rabid Hearing and rabid Deaf folk, whichever end of the CI/deaf culture spectrum they are on.
