Oh, I just knew that the Ministry's sad excuse of a plan wouldn't work. Because, really, Lucius Malfoy may be insane but he is not stupid, for... for Merlin's sake! Of course he wasn't going to just stroll in and let himself be captured.
This Ancestral Rite of yours sounds like rather an interesting idea. I was merely slightly confused - you wrote the Rite as something that is performed, yet I fail to remember any kind of hint of that happening. You meant to say that the Malfoy ancestors came to protect Draco of their own volition? It may, of course, be due to my reading the chapters as quickly as I could - perhaps a bit hastily, I admit - that I missed the explanation to this, but I thought that asking never hurts. And who knows the story better than its writer?
The Ancestral Rite is just something that occurs to every member of the ancient pureblood families on the sixteenth birthday ( if i recall correctly), and it is something the ancestors do of their own volition. ^^
