Fail weather reporters

I'm sitting in the airport and thus actually watching the weather report on TV instead of just looking up the forecast online.

On the screen we see a picture of a large, reasonably spherical hail stone with a flexible measuring tape wrapped around it.  The tape shows that the circumference is a little over 18 inches.  What they say:

It's one thing to get "diameter" and "circumference" mixed up... but estimating Pi to be about 2.25?? (okay, it might be almost 2.5 if we're generous)
