Okay, what is this? Is Archive Of Our Own seriously going to put me on some waiting list where I have to sit and wait for them to maaaybe graciously supply me with an invite code some day? At least that's what it says on the sign-up page. Did you guys have to wait? I'm not amused

Okay, turns out that the whole affair isn't as restrictive as I thought, after all. It obviously just takes them a couple of days to process the 'applications'? It said that I should get my code by July 5. We'll see.

Did it work like this back when you signed up there? I'm kinda scratching my head over this type of registration procedure, though.

I think the reason is that they want to control the pace the site is growing at. I've heard about such practices before, especially if it was still at beta stage.
