WYWUAS - Chapter 13
“E-eh?” Aiba laughed anxiously.
All he could do was laugh, because it was a joke….Right?
“Let’s break up,” repeated Nino with that same, horrible cold tone.
Nino’s voice and eyes told Aiba that it wasn’t a joke. The magician had never seemed so serious, so distant, so unmoved. Even though Aiba didn’t speak, his eyes asked Nino for an explanation.
“I’m fed up. It was great when we were together, but I never really loved you. I wanted to try men, but since I’m an idol, I can’t go out with anybody... and since you were interested in me, I thought it was a good idea…you know?”
Nino was serious. He spoke in a soft tone that wasn’t mean or angry. All he wanted was to say the words Aiba would tell him. He understood that Aiba was into women, and that he didn’t really love Nino. It was just an experiment for the real Sho after all, and knowing that hurt so much that Nino didn’t want to hear them coming from Aiba’s mouth.
“B-but…you cried…so it’s not really the truth…right?” whispered Aiba, looking at his feet. Those weren’t the words he wanted to use, but his brain seemed like it was broken.
“No. I cried because I was scared about telling you the truth. For Arashi…” Nino surprised himself with his fast reply. People said he didn’t know how to lie. They were wrong.
“A-Arashi?” Aiba repeated, totally stunned. “Arashi…of course….” He said, stepping back, still staring the floor.
“We can still be friends.”
Ouch! The only words you shouldn’t say after dumping someone. Those words hurt more than ‘Let’s break up.’
“Friends…” whispered Aiba, unaware that he was leaving the bedroom. “Yeah…let’s do that…” Nino heard Aiba from the corridor. The magician walked towards his door and looked at the bent form walking slowly across the hall.
“I’m sorry Sho-chan. But at least, let me be the one who dumps the other…” whispered Nino while a single tear slid down his cheek.
Aiba didn’t seem to notice the sudden coldness when he came out of Nino’s house, nor did he notice Sho sitting on the ground and waiting for him.
“He dumped you, huh?” smirked Sho, standing up. It wasn’t that Sho was happy about the result, but that’s what you get when you cheat behind your lover’s back.
“Friends… Yeah…let’s be friends…” repeated Aiba, still lost in his thoughts.
Aiba didn’t become an idiot all of a sudden; it’s just that Nino’s words were still playing in his mind, and though he had graduated from Keio, he couldn’t seem to understand them.
“Sho-san?” Sho called out; the anger he felt a few seconds ago had disappeared completely.
Aiba didn’t reply. He was still walking, certainly heading to his house. When the tall idol crossed the road without looking both ways, Sho decided to follow him, just to make sure he would be safe.

“MatsuJun!” Toma called out, running after Jun.
The latter stopped as he was getting into a car with his manager.
“What do you want Toma?” Jun asked gently, a soft smile on his lips.
“I…Well…What do you think if…have a drink?” Toma offered with an awkward smile as he tried to catch his breath.
“Ah…” Jun rubbed a hand on the back of his neck, slightly embarrassed.
“Not tonight, I…I already have something up. Sorry.”
“Oh, okay. It’s just…we haven’t spent a lot of time together recently…Never mind!” Toma smiled weakly, waving his hand.
“Hmm…how about tomorrow?”
“Sure!” Toma quickly accepted the offer.
“Tomorrow then.” Jun concluded before bowing his head and closing the car door.
As the engine started, Jun looked through the back window and chuckled softly.
“Why are you laughing?” asked his manager.
“Hmm? Nothing…” Jun replied casually, looking one last time at Toma, who was still standing on the sidewalk with a goofy smile on his face.

Ohno was walking back and forth in the living room. Sho wasn’t here yet, and Jun’s phone was cut off. For God’s sake, where were they?! The leader ran towards the door when he heard it open.
“What took you so long?” He grumbled when Sho entered the apartment.
“They broke up.” Sho said simply.
“Well…I knew it…” Ohno sighed, walking into the living room. “But it wasn’t Sho-chan, right?”
Sho shook his head. “Aiba-chan did it. But there’s something wrong…” said Sho, concerned.
“What’s wrong?” asked Jun from the doorway, looking back and forth between Ohno and Sho.
“Sho-san was really weird. I would say creepy.” answered Sho, moving back to let the younger one enter.
“Creepy?”
“They broke up, Oh-chan.” Said Ohno thinking it would help the younger one to understand what happened.
Jun’s face tensed up and it didn’t take more than two seconds before he pulled Sho into the corridor.
“I have to see him and you’ll drive.” He said in a firm tone and pointed at Sho.
“Let me drive!” said Ohno, following them.
“No you can’t. I don’t have a driving license. Go to my place and stay with my mom.”
In the car, Jun was as silent as always, but it was obvious that the youngest was worried. The annoying sounds his fingers were making against the leather seat were proof of his anxiety. Sho was silent too, his gaze fixed on the road as he tried to ignore the annoying noises his friend’s fingers were making.
“Why do you seem to know what’s going on between those two?” Sho asked softly, as he stopped at a red light.
“Because I do, and I can tell you this: Sho-kun didn’t cheat on Aiba-chan.” Jun replied in a whisper while looking at the driver with a very serious expression.
“If you knew, why didn’t you say anything?!” Sho said angrily.
“Because I promised Sho-kun.”
*****
All the lights inside Aiba’s house were off, they knew Aiba’s family was in Sendai- Aiba’s little brother won a three day trip at the lottery. Good. This way they didn’t have to be careful. Jun rushed out of the car when he saw the front door wide open, Sho fought with his safety belt for a few seconds before following him inside.
“RIDAAAAAAAAA!!!” Aiba happily shouted from the kitchen.
He stood up with some difficulty; a bottle of whisky in one hand, and welcomed Jun with his arms wide open. Aiba was totally drunk.
At least he wasn’t creepy anymore, thought Sho.
“Sho-kun…” Jun sighed as he caught the taller idol in his arms and prevented him from falling hard on the cold floor, smelling the breath that welcomed him.
“My friend!” said Aiba, patting Jun’s back strongly.
“Good. My best buddy whisky-chan and I felt a bit lonely. Come with us!” He said as he pushed himself away from Jun’s embrace, and waved at him with his free hand, telling him to come near the table.
“I think…whisky-chan is a bit sleepy. Why don’t you let him rest?” Asked Jun as he took the bottle from Aiba’s hand and placed it on the table.
“Ridaa is so nice~. You really are a very true friend! You’re always here for me! Hum! You’re not the type of friend, who tears a friend’s heart from his chest and tramples it before throwing it out the window.” Aiba explained as he walked towards his chair. There were two of them and of course, the taller man chose the wrong one.
Once his back hit the hard and cold floor, Aiba started crying softly. From the doorway, Sho closed his eyes. Seeing Aiba in this state was unbearable. He could deal with an angry Sho, a drunken Sho but not a crying one. Jun noticed a pile of torn papers on the ground, with a fragment of the real Sho’s signature. Jun sighed heavily and shook his head as he knelt in front of Aiba.
“You finally found it?” the youngest one asked sadly.
Aiba nodded once.
“How was it?” asked Jun.
“Perfect.” cried Aiba, covering his face with his hands. Jun hugged him tightly.
Sho didn’t move and tried fighting back the tears, biting hard on his bottom lip.
“Satoshi!” The desperate cry muffled by Jun’s chest had the better of Sho, and suddenly he ran towards the both of them and hugged Aiba’s back.
“I’m sorry Sho. I’m really, really sorry Sho.”
Later in the night, Aiba finally fell asleep against Jun’s chest. The latter told Sho the entire story, and the rapper was angry with himself for doubting Aiba’s intentions.
“We should tell Aiba-chan.” said Sho as he led Jun into Aiba’s room. Gently, they put the sleeping idol in his bed and they sat on each side of Aiba.
“No. You have done enough already. It only concerns Sho-kun and Aiba-chan.” said Jun in a low yet firm tone.
“But this is ridiculous! We must help them!” Sho whispered angrily.
“You tried to help them before…See what you have done.”
Sho couldn’t reply; Jun was right, and God it was hard to admit it!
*****
Ohno was sitting on the grey couch and shuffling his cards. Even though he would never admit it, he now had more respect for the real Ohno’s way of living. The leader was anxious for his band mates but at the same time he had to be near his mom as well. People often joked of his attitude towards his mother but the anxious look and the strong embrace she had given him once he was back hurt Ohno’s heart. The real Nino knew that Ohno loved his mother deeply, but he never thought their bond was so strong. He should have called her before.
Lost in his thoughts, the leader had a start; some cards slipped out from his hands when the door opened. One very bad looking Nino came through the door and Ohno couldn’t help but make a face.
“Please! That is my face. Don’t make me look ugly!” He smirked, but his attempt to make the smaller one smile, failed.
Nino was tired from his sleepless night, and his eyes were still a bit red from the tears. To tell the truth, the magician was a bit anxious. Today they recorded ‘Utaban’ and he was in a poor shape. But what made him really worried was how Aiba would react. The previous evening, Nino secretly hoped that Aiba would stop him, telling him he was the only one he loved and that this entire story was a misunderstanding. But even for Arashi’s miracle boy, miracles never happened. Nino’s heart stopped when the door behind him opened. Fortunately-or unfortunately, it was only Jun, and the youngest wasn’t in better shape.
“Guys! We’re idols!” joked Ohno, who really didn’t like the heavy mood. The leader lost his smirk when he saw Jun’s eyes, and as naturally as he could, he opened his arms wide, offering Jun a warm and comforting place.
“Hard night?” Ohno whispered softly into Jun’s ear. The younger man nodded slowly and hugged his leader a bit more.
“Where’s MatsuJun?”
“He’s talking with the staff. The record is cancelled. Sho-kun is not coming.” Jun answered without looking at Nino.
Yet the latter was looking at Jun desperately, silently asking why Aiba wasn’t here today. The mood had gotten more unbearable for the leader. Jun then jumped back and pouted at Ohno, a hand gently stroking his bottom.
“Yeah I know.” smirked Ohno. “I don’t like it either, I prefer these.” He added patting his own back.
Jun chuckled softly, coming back into Ohno’s embrace. Nino sat in the corner of the room and tried not to look at the cute couple near him. Even if they were his friends, it hurt to see them being in love; being together. Nino fought back the tears and swallowed hard; he had to be strong for Arashi. For him. For Sho-chan.
Speaking of Sho, he entered the green room silently. The rapper passed a hand on his tired face, threw himself onto the couch, and sighed from exhaustion.
“The recording has been rescheduled for next Thursday.” He finally said. He looked at Nino and bit his bottom lip. Sho knew he promised Ohno and, indirectly, Aiba, that he would say nothing. But both of them suffered and it was ridiculous! It was his fault; if only he had let Chisatou-san speak the last time, they wouldn’t be in this mess now. Unable to bear this situation, Sho walked towards Nino slowly.
“MatsuJun” Called Jun when the newscaster almost touched Nino’s shoulder.
“Here is the script you asked me for yesterday.” said Jun as he handed the script to Sho.
“Since Sho-kun isn’t here now, we should focus on our own work, don’t you think?” He added, emphasizing some words.
Sho glanced at the poor form near him one last time before sighing deeply and went back to his seat. He knew that Jun meant well but seeing his friends in this state was so painful, and he was the only one at fault. Jun’s gentle and reassuring look helped him feel better, slightly.
“I’ve an interview in two hours, then a photo shoot and I’ll be free for the rest of the day.” said Ohno, playing with his cards, his head resting on Jun’s shoulders.
“Want to spend the night together?”
“I’m sorry, but I can’t.” Jun declined. “I have some work to do this afternoon, and a meeting after that, and then…I want to check if Sho-kun is alright.”
“Again?! Why do you always have work at night?! Are you a stripper?! You know it’s not safe with that crazy fan girl…” Argued Ohno, his serious gaze fixed on Jun.
“Don’t worry. I’m fine… Aiba-chan? Where are you going?” Jun asked suddenly when Nino passed by his side, with his backpack in hand.
“Ah…I have an interview later, but I think it would be better if I arrived early…”
Jun nodded once, and focused again on Ohno. Nino smiled weakly and waved to his band mates as he passed through the door. The smallest idol rested his back against the wall and sighed heavily, his eyes fixed on his phone. He couldn’t help but feel worried for Aiba. The real Sho had never missed a job before. Even though Nino was the one who broke up with him, he was still in love, and so, worried.
Calling Aiba would be too painful. So the last choice Nino had was a text message. After all, he asked Aiba to remain friends with him, and friends cared for each other, right?
‘Sho-chan, how are you feeling?
Rest well and eat some chicken soup, my mom always gives me this to feel better. A hot bath could help too.
Your friend,
Aiba’
Nino looked at the message and erased it suddenly. It wasn’t the kind of message a friend would send. It was that or the fact that Nino didn’t want to just be a friend. The magician sighed for the nth time and put the phone in his pocket before leaving the building.
In the green room, Sho had just finished reading the script of the first episode. Even if the story was good, there was no way he could star in it.
“Thanks for the script Ridaa. You can tell my manager that I decline the role.” He said casually, throwing the script on the table in front of him. He leaned on the couch and massaged his temples.
“But…I have already accepted.” said Jun.
“What?!”
There was no way he would play in this drama! The role was too dangerous for his career, and even if Arashi had the image of a gay group, he wasn’t ready to play a gay character!
“Why?!” asked Sho in a strangled voice.
“I loved the story. It really moved me. And the director almost begged me, I couldn’t refuse.” Jun explained and gave Sho his best pout.
“There are kissing scenes- a lot, and even a nude one!” Yelled Sho
“It never stopped you before.” smirked Ohno.
“With a GUY!” glared Sho. If looks could kill….
“As I said…it never stopped you before.”
“Ridaa!”
“But…the one who plays Toru was really pleased to play with you!”
“Who’s Toru?”
“You’re character’s boyfriend in the drama.” Jun recalled.
“Thanks I know, I’ve read the script! I meant ‘who’s playing Toru’?” Sho was on the edge.
“Toma-chan.”
Silence.
Well…This drama wasn’t as bad as he had thought in the end. Of course, the character of Yukito was a bit dangerous, but wasn’t Sawada Shin dangerous too? And Domyouji Tsukasa scared him at the beginning, but it was the role that pushed him towards the top. Sho turned his back and walked towards the door, taking his bag with him when he passed by.
“Since you have already accepted… I have no choice.” He said in a grumpy tone, without looking at his band mates. He tried hard to suppress the smile on his lips as he came out.
*****
The day had been long and tiring. But finally he was in ‘his’ apartment. Jun was hungry and it seemed like he hadn’t had a big and hot bowl of ramen in a while, though he had one the day before. Ramen…delicious, hot and spicy ramen. His mouth was already watering. Jun had made up his mind: on his way to visit Aiba, he would buy two bowls of ramen- he was sure that Aiba hadn’t eaten anything during the whole day.
As Jun entered the shower with a wonderful picture of ramen before his mind’s eye, he remembered the meeting he had for the drama. The cast and the staff were nice. Even if the topic of the drama was a bit risky, the people around Jun were really relaxed. Everybody except one person.
Jun recalled how fast the bright smile on Toma’s face disappeared when Jun told him he couldn’t have a drink with him as he promised. The poor eternal Johnny’s junior seemed so depressed that it was painful. How could MatsuJun not see how much Toma loved him?!
Toma-chan was an incredible actor- Jun had known it since he played with him in the musical comedy, “West Side Story,” and he had even improved, just watch Maou and you’ll see. Toma reassured Jun about the fact they would play gay characters. His role for Nakatsu Shuichi had helped Toma a lot, even though ‘Hana Kimi’ had a funnier mood than the new drama they would star in.
Toma was a nice and funny guy, and he and MatsuJun would be perfect together. If only they weren’t so dumb!
As he was dressing, a knock on the door pulled Jun away from his thoughts.
“Toma-chan?” said Jun, surprised when he opened the door.
The actor was huffing and tried his best to catch his breath as he planted his gaze on Jun.
“MatsuJun… I can’t keep it anymore!” He said, awfully serious as he stepped inside.
“What’s wrong Toma-chan?” asked Jun anxiously. “Did something bad happen?”
“I… Yes. Something’s wrong, Jun. Recently, you don’t seem to be the same…Is-is it because you know?” asked Toma without looking at Jun. Those words were so hard to pronounce.
“Listen Toma-chan…” Jun started gently, a hand resting on Toma’s shoulder.
“I really don’t have the time right now…”
“You never have time for me anymore!” said Toma, louder than he wanted. “Aren’t we friends?” He asked softly.
“Of course we are. But…” Jun stopped in the middle of his sentence, the pain in Toma’s eyes were unbearable.
“Aiba-chan isn’t feeling well today…Why don’t you come with me?” He offered as he gave Toma is best smile.
Toma seemed to think hard about the offer, but in less than two seconds, he accepted. Aiba-chan was in debt with Toma after all, and maybe the tall idol would help him, just like he had helped Aiba-chan with Sho-chan in the past.
“Great! I’ll call him, okay?” smiled Jun, walking into his living room, searching for his vest and his wallet- he had to buy three bowls of ramen now!
It was better if the real Sho knew that Toma was coming. Unfortunately, it was his answering machine.
“Sho-Aiba-chan? This is Mats-Jun! Hmm… I guess you haven’t eaten, right? Don’t worry I’ll bring you some ramen. By the way, Toma is coming with…”
The door flew open with a loud noise.
“JUN WATCH OUT!” Yelled Toma, before being hit on the back of his head and falling on the ground, unconscious.
“What the…” said Jun, letting go of his phone when something hit him hard on the top of his head.
“My dear Tsukasa…” Mikoto smiled lovingly as she knelt near one unconscious Jun.
