Such a loser - Chapter 1

“Hey! We’re here! Right here!” Exclaimed one happy Aiba, waving his hand in the boy’s direction.

“Why don’t you put a giant signboard near us that says “We’re Arashi. Free kisses!”?” Grunted Nino, fixing his cap on his head as he saw people around looking at them strangely.

The kid walked towards them hesitantly, seeing they wore caps and sunglasses for the one with curly hair. In the end he was right:

“You’re really pedo after all!” He said though in the end sat next to Sho.

The latter looked up, shocked: “Pedo?!”

“Nah! That boy thinks he’s so irresistible and that we all want his body.” Replied Nino before sticking his tongue out at the kid who did the same.

“Oh…” answered Ohno simply, as if it explained everything.

“That reminds me…what’s your name? And I mean your real name?” Asked Jun, insisting on his words.

“…” The boy remained silent, his fingers fidgeting with the tablecloth.

“You know…we don’t have a ‘Death Note’ book. We won’t kill you!” Joked Sho though he was the only one who laughed.

“Lo…” Started the kid.

“Oh come on! Your name isn’t that stupid nickname!” Growled Jun, lowering his sunglasses and looking at the kid with a very angry look.

“Sorry for the wait.” Announced the waitress signaling her presence before putting on the table the things the men had ordered: waffles, ice cream, tea and hot cocoa.

“We didn’t know what you would like so…please take as you want!” Said Aiba with a gentle and warm smile.

The boy looked at each man in front of him. Those guys were idiots or…? No they were real idiots! Nobody would buy food for strangers, and more particularly for a boy that called you pedo!

“Hiromu.” He said in a low voice as he took the waffle in front of him.

“Sorry what?” Asked Sho who didn’t heard his soft voice.

“My name. It’s Hiromu.” He said again, louder.

“That’s cute! Hiro-chan! I like it! It’s cute!” Giggled the animals’ lover.

“Hiro-chan?” Chocked the kid as he heard the nickname.

“Aiba-chan! You don’t know him personally; you should use “kun” first.” Warned Sho but he was more embarrassed than angry.

“But…” Started Aiba, bowing his head. “Sho-chan didn’t find it strange when I called him Sho-chan the first time…”

“Well…that’s because…err…it was different! We are band mates and err…” Replied Sho, hiding his red face behind the menu.

Hiromu looked at the two men back and fro.

“Don’t mind them.” Whispered Nino in his ear and giving him a start.

“So…You’re ‘Wind’ huh?” Asked Hiromu with he hoped was a nonchalant tone as he tried to change the topic.

“Arashi.” Corrected Jun.

“Whatever. It’s a strange name.”

“That’s what we thought too at the beginning, right?” Smiled Sho looking at Nino who nodded.

“If you found it strange why did you choose it?” Asked the kid taking the hot cocoa in his cold hands.

“We didn’t choose it. It was the president who gave us this name.” Explained Ohno thinking that since Hiromu didn’t take the ice cream it would be a waste to let it melt.

“Yes,  Johnny-san. But we’re not here to talk about us!” Said Jun as he waved at the waitress to take a new order.

“That’s right! Where’s your mom? She hasn’t come back from work?” Asked Aiba.

“She’s in my hometown.” Hiromu said in a sad tone.

“Oh? Where is it?” Asked happily Aiba.

“Chicago.”

“Chikagou?” Repeated Aiba thinking deeply. “Chikagou…Chikagou…where is it? Is it far from Chiba?”

“He means ‘Chicago’! It’s in the USA right?” Asked Sho.

“Yep.” Answered Hiromu as he drank the end of his cocoa in one gulp.

“So you’re American?” Asked Ohno patting his tummy, satisfied.

“No! I’m Japanese!” Said the kid with a firm tone. Once again people would judge him just because he was different.

The member of the group looked at him a bit surprised by his attitude. Then Jun tried to give him a genuine gentle smile.

“And then? You’re alone here?”

“I’ve…lost my keys. I can’t go home before she gets back.”

“When will she come back?” Asked Ohno.

“In a month and a half.” Whispered Hiromu, feeling depressed. His mother wasn’t the best mother on Earth but he missed her so much right now.

Another silent surrounded the small group. A kid being alone for more than a month! They all felt sad for him. He was so young and alone and…beaten up.

“Why don’t you come with us?” Proposed Ohno brusquely.

“Wh-what?!”

“That’s right! We’re staying at the hotel right now! Jun…you still have one free bed in your room, right?” Said Aiba, already excited to have a new friend.

“Well yes, but I hope Hiro-kun doesn’t snore because I hate that!” Said Jun running a hand in his hair with an exasperated tone, though the smile in the corner of his lips showed that he wasn’t as annoyed as he pretended.

“Wa-wait!” Stuttered the kid.

“And then we can take him with us during filming and rehearsals!” Continued Sho, clapping in his hands as if everything was settled.

Everyone started to talk happily, giving their opinion and how they could spend the time with their new friend.

“Hello?!” Said Hiromu standing up suddenly. He didn’t have his word to say?!

“I will not come with you! I don’t know you! I’m really thankful for the pastries and all, but I will not follow strangers!” He shouted the boy angrily.

He was right. Arashi members went silent again as they were thinking about the offer. It was strange to take care of a boy you’ve just meet during the day. But…they just wanted to help him…was it really wrong?

Nino who hadn’t spoken yet stood up and put on his coat. He then made a move with his head giving the others the silent order to do the same. It was about time to go back to their hotel.

“Since you’re scared of Arashi, I hope you don’t fear thunderstorms.” Said the gamer, walking towards the door.

He opened it and Hiromu could see the violent thunderstorm outside. The sky was all black and from time to time only became white with the terrifying lightning. He hated thunderstorms. It was scaring and noisy! Hiromu had two choices. First one he would be eaten alive by those five grown up men that were a bit crazy. The second one…he could be killed during the night by the weather. Hum…the second choice wasn’t that bad! Though…they seemed sincere…but sincerity isn’t a feeling that Hiromu believe. His friends were sincere and nice with him or that what he thought, but then they made fun of him and hit him hard until tears would start to slide from his eyes.

“Good luck, kid!” Said Nino before coming out and running towards the car that was waiting for them.

The rest of Arashi looked sadly at him and tried to give him a gentle smile, but deep inside them they were worried about him. That wasn’t right! They couldn’t leave him alone in the thunderstorm!

“Guys! It’s late! Come on! And Oh-chan…don’t forget to pay the bill!” Shouted Nino, comfortably sitting inside the car.

“If he’s scared of us we could pay for a room for him alone.” Offered Aiba as he sat next to Nino.

“Just wait.” Smirked Nino as he put a hand on the door. “Three…two…one….”

He then opened the door again and in front of them Hiromu was standing under the rain, totally soaked.

“Come.” Said Nino as he pushed himself more inside the car, making room for the kid.

“How did you know?” Asked the kid fastening his security belt.

“You’re like me when I was around your age.” Smiled Nino softly.

Once they were arrived at the hotel, Arashi first gathered in Ohno’s room. It was early and they all wanted to know the kid a little more.

“We’re staying there for three days then we’ll return to Tokyo. Since your mom will not be around for a month why don’t you stay with us and you’ll come back before her?” Offered Sho as he helped Jun with the drinks.

“Why?” Asked Hiromu once again. He still didn’t understand why those guys helped him.

“We feel like it…” Replied Nino casually shrugging his shoulders.

“I don’t need you to pity me!” Argued the kid, standing up suddenly.

“There’s no pity.” Said Ohno in a soft and neutral tone.

“Why would we pity you? If you’re bullied it’s only your fault, so there’s no need to pity you.” Added Jun drinking his juice slowly.

“M-my fault?! I didn’t ask for being bullied!” He yelled again.

“But you don’t do anything to prevent it either.” Added Sho in a low tone.

“And what can I do?! They’re together and I’m alone! I don’t have as many fists as I need to beat them up!”

Arashi only sighed; it was useless to talk with this stubborn kid right now. He was too young, he wouldn’t understand their point. Jun stood up and gathered his things.

“It’s time. Tomorrow we have a hard day so it’s better if we go to bed early.” He said as he walked towards the door. He turned around and waited for Hiromu to come.

“Good night.” Said the kid. He bowed slowly and followed Jun into the corridor.

Once they were alone, the rest of Arashi sighed with a soft smile on their face.

“He’s a good kid.” Stated Ohno.

“But a brat at the same time.” Giggled Aiba.

“A good kid indeed.” Smiled Nino behind his drink.

*~*~*~

In Jun’s room Hiromu changed his clothes in the bathroom while Jun was doing the same in the bedroom. The idol slid under the covers and took a book to help me fall asleep faster. He looked at the bathroom door when he heard it open and tried to suppress a laugh when he saw the kid with one of Aiba’s T-shirt on him. It was way too large for him! But the teddy bear on the front that said “Wish me a good night!” was really cute!

Hiromu walked towards the bed and slid under the covers as well. In the end it was better than staying alone under the rain. He had a warm and comfortable bed to spend the night, he couldn’t ask for something more. He winced when he turned and lie down on his back.

“What’s wrong?” Asked Jun still reading his book.

“Nothing.”

“I hate liars so it’s better for you if you tell me what’s wrong.” Warned Jun with a neutral voice.

“I…nothing.” Said the kid finally. He didn’t want to bother Jun anymore. Tomorrow he would leave them after thanking them.

Jun put his book in the corner of his bed and sighed as he stood up. Hiromu could feel his heart beating faster with each step that brought Jun closer. He didn’t move even when he felt the covers being removed.

“Turn around.” Asked Jun gently.

But Hiromu shook his head softly and kept his eyes closed. Jun rolled his eyes and sighed once again before he gently pushed the kid on his side. The youngest of the group winced when he saw the small red mark on Hiromu right shoulder.

“I tried to take care of it myself but the bottle of antiseptics was too high for me to grab.” Explained Hiromu in a whisper.

“Aiba-chan will be sad that you spoiled his favorite T-shirt.” Jun said only that before leaving the kid and went to the bathroom. A few seconds later he came back with the bottle of antiseptics and cotton pad.

Jun took care of the wound silently and tried as much as he could to not hurt the kid more than needed.

“Do you think that he will be mad at me?” Asked Hiromu suddenly.

“Hm? Aiba-chan? No. Aiba-chan’s never mad, he’s only sad.” Replied Jun softly still focused on the wound. He took a pair of tweezers and removed some tiny gravels stuck in it.

“How did all of you met?”

“We were in the same company. The President put all the five of us together and we debuted like that.”

“You weren’t friends back then?”

“Not really. I’ve known Nino and Aiba-chan before Sho-chan and Oh-chan. But little by little we became friends.”

“It’s weird”

Jun chuckled: “We’re weird.” They fell silent again until the wound was completely clean.

With a soft bow of his head Hiromu thanked Jun silently and lie down again. Jun smiled softly and slid under his covers as well.

“They way you guys have met is really weird.” Whispered Hiromu as he closed his eyes.

Jun put his arms above his head and smiled fondly: “Yeah…But I’ll always be grateful to Johnny-san for putting us together…”
