CHAPTER 1: Eitoku Gakuen

The school of the wealth was what people said about Eitoku. It was as if gold grew on trees in the school environment. It was a huge building, surrounded by the rarest and most beautiful plants in Japan. Many mistook it to be a palace or an ancient castle once belonging to those glorious during the Edo period of Japan. Perhaps that’s why it looked like a fortress rather than a school. Eitoku was an academy for those young achievers who would promise to become professionals in life. It was also the only school unaffordable by many of the common community. As rich was its milieu, so were its students. Girls walked in freely holding school bags studded with diamonds. Not having Jimmy Coo’s to wear to school every day was an insult for the females.  “Chanel and Louis Vuitton” were considered the most common brand beyond the mighty walls of Eitoku Gakuen. Students would begin their breath taking life journey at the mere age of thirteen until they would fully graduate by the age of twenty. Truly to those who studied at Eitoku, life was nothing more than money. Then knew no pain or suffering.  Imagining people living on Instant Ramen everyday was a fantasy to the inhabitants of Eitoku. And people from such fantasies were naturally considered…losers.

Yamamoto Isoroku was a new student at Eitoku. As wealthy as anyone at the academy, he had a bad habit of bragging. Since he had just transferred from England, he kept ‘showing off’ his English. Truly some of his class fellows were very impressed and so he gained fame quickly. His good looks helped him to get friendly with the girls as well. Just one mistake he did…changed Isoroku’s life forever.

“That’s how I shook hands with Prince William, I mean I did not want to, but he insisted so I guess I had to” Yamamoto said to the goggling group sitting around. They all sighed with impressments. “Sugoi!” some girls whispered and they moved closer to sit nearer to him. Yamamoto smiled widely and welcomed them. Then he continued his impressive stories which were actually true but not 100%. He had added some things inside his stories to make himself seem even more imposing. Yet, as the whole class surrounded Yamamoto eager to share their own past experiences, one girl seemed however unimpressed. In fact, she slept out of boredom. For her everyone at Eitoku had only one word to explain them…”Baka” she whispered retiring to her nap.

During lunch one day, Yamamoto made his way towards this sleepy girl. She was apparently busy pouring over books. As he came near she looked up and pushed her glasses against her nose. “Nani?” she asked with such a tone Yamamoto felt like a strong wind had just blown and he moved back. “Hi…urm…Konichiwa. I noticed…you…urr….like to be alone a lot. So I decided to give you company today.” He said with his head held high. However, the girl was nowhere impressed. She pulled her messy hair back and took a deep yawn. “Wow, excellent interpretation of “being alone”. Thanks but no thanks.” she said and returned to her nap.  Disappointed, Yamamoto moved away to sit somewhere else. “

“Isoroku kun!” some girls called out and invited him to sit with them. He gladly accepted the offer. When they had finished eating and gossiping (a common hobby of those at Eitoku), Yamamoto stood up and stretched slightly. “Yosh….ah!” He said as he turned and accidently knocked into a junior. The junior must have been a second year. But he did not look like he was from Eitoku. He was dressed entirely in white and not in their uniform. “Gomen… chibi” Yamamoto said with a small chuckle. With that he moved away. He did not notice the gasps from the crowd at his uttered words earlier. Neither did he realize many students had not moved since he bumped into that second year. He also did not realize that the second year himself had not moved. The junior stared at Yamamoto Isoroku walking away haughtily with a strange amusement on his face. Then he picked up his books and made his way up the stairs where no other ordinary student dared to step. As some students noticed him go up, a sudden fear came over them. There was no doubt that the next day would be Yamamoto Isoroku’s last day at Eitoku Gakuen.

The next morning, Yamamoto made his way toward his locker. He stopped in the middle to realize that he had left his gold and diamond key chain in his limousine but then changed his mind since he knew that it was not that important. He noticed some people were eyeing him keenly. They were pale and forced smiles as Yamamoto’s eyes met with theirs. He just nodded. “Why is everyone acting as if I’m on my Death bed?” He wondered. Weird kids. And with that he opened his locker. It was empty. His books were missing. The only thing that hung there was a red piece of paper. A red note. ON it the symbols H.S.J were written vertically. “What the…?”  He muttered as he pulled it out. “Where the hell are my books?”  He yelled but stopped abruptly. The crowd was staring behind him. They let out small gasps of fear and moved away. They were making space for someone or some people. He turned around and saw ten boys facing him with the utmost disgust. Five were dressed completely in white. And the five taller ones were dressed in black leather. The junior from earlier was one of them. “Here are your books, sweetheart” one of the tall ones came close and threw Yamamoto’s books and other various things which were once in his locker at his feet. Some students laughed at the boy’s remark. ‘What should we do Yabu?” he asked staring at another boy who pulled off his black leather jacket and threw it to one of the girls standing nearby who caught it gratefully.. The other boys smiled and gave each other excited stares. Chinen smiled and asked Ryutaro” Is he the one who referred to you as chibi?” Ryutaro nodded smiling. Yamada Ryosuke raised his eyebrows in amusement.  “Hi, I’m Takaki Yuya, your personal death angel” said the boy who had thrown Yamamoto’s books onto the floor mocking Yamamoto’s arrogant voice. Yamamoto stared silently. Many students roared into laughter. Takaki flipped his hair and winked at a couple of girls nearby who squealed.

“They want a show” Daiki said animatedly as the students around them started ‘FIGHT…FIGHT…FIGHT!”

“Let’s give it to them, then” Yabu said smiling. Yamamoto stared as ten boys closed up on him. He struggled to escape but to no avail. The last thing he remembered was Takaki’s fist in his face and then there was darkness…
