NEIGHBOURS
Ryosuke was sprawled upon the grass, arms folded behind his head, a serene smile playing on his lips. He loved how the gentle breeze played against his skin.
“Ahh....Satruday!..” he thought to himself.
The birds were singing their song, the neighbours’ sprinkles were going whirr upon their lawn. And even the dogs seemed to be up this morning. He could hear their faint growling in the distance.
“My sweet puppies...I wonder what are they up too?”
He stretched upon the grass, enjoying the distant growling blissfully ignoring the fact that they were growing louder soon to be accompanied by scratching noises.
He then went on to amuse himself with the thought;
“It’s like it’s raining cats and dogs...how nice! Wait...”
“YOU STUPID DOG GET OFF MY CAT!”
Yamada’s eyes snapped open to see his dog doing a projectile over him. He jumped to his feet, anger building inside of him. But what he saw however made him feel as if his heart had plummeted to the bottom of his stomach. There, standing in the neighbouring lawn, arms full of struggling cat was none other than...
“Yu...Yu...Yu...YUKI?”
She blinked back at him through her large frames.
“That was YOUR dog?”
“What...Wha...Why are you here? Are you stalking me?!”
“Oh haha, Yamada Ryosuke’s worst nightmare, stalking homework...”
Yamada stared at her in disbelief. What was she doing here? Why? But then again...there was a more important matter at hand...he glared at her and cradled his pooch.
“You flung my dog!?”
“Well you’re dog was trying to get a little too frisky with my sweety here...”
Yamada grimaced at her Siamese. Compared to it, his dog was nothing short of an angel.
“Hey ever wondered that your cat might be a daemon”
“Okay, I know you suck at biology, but this is a CAT...”
He stared dumbstruck. “You were much nicer in class today...”
She smirked. “Well, there was a sensei there you see....”
Yamada rolled his eyes.
He stared after her as Yuki turned around without another word and made her way back to the front door of her house, snuggling her “demonic cat”.
But then again, why was this girl living next door? He knew his neighbour very well and never really got along with him. It was his ex lab partner’s home. His enemy’s home. His....
“Urr...Ryo..?”
Yamada blinked staring at Kenta who was staring back. Lost in thoughts, he had been standing there staring into space. Kenta smiled and placed his hands on the knee length fence between them.
“You look dazed so I thought I’d disturb you..wait....were you thinking?? Now that’s new...” he smirked.
Yamada frowned. “ Urusai..........Ne Kenta...there was a girl here just now...she flung my dog...”
Kenta stopped smiling. “Oh...so you’ve met the daemon...”
“I knew that cat was a daemon!”
“No not cat Ryosuke...my step-sister...That’s Yuki...”
“Step sister?” Yamada stared at him. Despite knowing Kenta for so long he had never actually bothered talking to him. Or having an actual conversation about likes and dislikes. The only thing they ever did was fight, about almost anything. He stared at Kenta who crossed his arms and sighed.
“Yup, step-sister...yay...”
“You don’t sound very happy about it...”
“Well...nobody likes having a stranger in the family. I mean....wait...I’m not telling you anything. Just keep that dog away, she loves her precious Kitties enough to cook your dog alive next time he scratches it...”
Alarmed by the information, Yamada pulled his puppy into a tight hug but as he watched Kenta go back indoors he amused himself with the fact that he and Kenta had actually had a very tolerable conversation and all because of that...Yuki....and her supposed cat like thing.

“Why would you do that?”
“Because you are a demonic little thing... that’s what you are. And so is that ridiculous cat...” Kenta furiously aimed a kick at the cat, which however managed to jump out of the way and as a result, Kenta’s foot ended up meeting with the wall.
“You’re horrible, I don’t have anyone besides you and Ni chan, you know that...” Yuki replied tearfully as Kenta jumped up and down holding his paining foot.
“Yeah well, we had enough problems before you came along. And my brother is an idiot for taking you in the family... we don’t need mom’s face here you know. She did enough by ditching us...”
“WHY ARE YOU PUNISHING ME FOR THAT?”
“BECAUSE YOU DON’T...”
Kenta stopped abruptly as a something hard hit his window. Yuki, still upset, took a few steps back as Kenta cautiously pulled the window open. He found himself staring into the face of a very disgruntled and sleepy looking Yamada, who was standing glaring at him across from his own window.
“Would you please shut up...” Yamada mouthed angrily.
Kenta stared at him, the sight of his messy hair and his baggy pyjamas, which had very obviously been drooled on.
“You look pretty...” he mouthed back with a big grin.
Yamada flung a small cushion at him. Despite the houses being next to each other, the space was not enough for the cushion to reach Kenta’s window. It ended up landing near the fences below.
Yuki looked over Kenta’s shoulder at Yamada than quickly checked the time on her alarm clock.
“Ne...ni chan, maybe we should apologise. Its three in the morning....”
“Fine...and don’t call me ni chan.”
Kenta apologised to Ryo, still grinning broadly, than closed the window shut. Yamada closed his own window grumpily, dragging himself back to his bed.
