DeviantArt virus

*sighhhh* I don't know how many people here are still on DeviantArt, but recently my computer got attacked by a nasty virus twice. Several of my friends have gotten the same one, and lost a lot of important data/had to reformat their computers. It's definitely coming from the site, and it pretends to be anti-virus software. Basically...I'm leaving

hey, i can see that this is an old subject, but i just got the same thing literally YESTERDAY. it took hours to fix but luckily it looks like nothing has been damaged.
so do you really think it's unsafe for me to go back there? i'm sort of holding the same stand-point as you here, i love DA but i can't risk that again... i got lucky, evidently.

Eugh, no fun. I'd recommended the free programs Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware if you don't have them already, just to make sure your computer is clean of that thing. I still go on DA occasionally, but I haven't had the same problem again. My other friend got it for a second time recently. With those programs you should be able to handle it, but DA hasn't really done anything about it. They've basically said that it's all the ad providers, and its out of their hands. So I have no clue if the virus is still lurking around or not, sorry. :/
