waiting to be connected to tech support would be unbearable were it not for speakerphone.  Are there really people who don't know how to shut down their computers?  People whose problem is that the moniter isn't plugged in?  I wish they'd just have the annoying elevator music.

Yes, there really are. I got those when I was working for the computer lab in college. I get some questions like that now from people who don't realize librarians do not equal computer services. Those guys are straightforward, though. The horrible ones are the ones who insist that something completely impossible should *be* possible and want you to make it happen and refuse to listen while you explain that you can't. My favorite was the guy who insisted he should be able to click on the page break in MSWord and move it around to make everything fit on one page, without having to change margins or font size or anything else, he didn't want other options, he wanted to click and drag the damn page break line and why wasn't it working? The other lab technitian, after watching me spend half an hour trying to explain, had to excuse herself to go outside and laugh herself sick.

I did get the "Where's the Any key?" line once, but it might have been a prank.
