Sweet thaaang

Random. Totally random. Written while watching Avalon in 3rd period (strange movie). Enjoy, My Lave. xD;

They had made a sort of habit or tradition out of this, whenever the venue happened to be within Shane’s reach. While the younger boy rarely got the chance to see the show itself, he was always there at the nearest café when Taori went after the lives, so long as it was close enough to home. Taori had grown used to the little jump in heartrate that he would get upon entering an unfamiliar café and seeing that familiar head of bleach blond hair. Of course, he would always appear entirely calm, even when the other boy would look up and smile in a way that demanded attention without intending to.

Tonight was no different from the others, save for the normal change of location. They sat across from each other, Taori’s hands taking warmth from his mug of tea while Shane, holding up their conversation, toyed absently with a long lock of hair that usually fell across his chest. Per usual, the older boy was fairly quiet save for the occasional word or two spoken in response to Shane. From the point of view of an on-looker-perhaps the waitress who had just brought Shane’s order-it would seem as though Taori was uninterested in his companion. In reality, he was listening intently to every word.

"I hope everything is okay…Mom’s taking her to the vet tomorrow just in case…"

Taori nodded, adjusting his hold on his mug before lifting it to take a sip. The mug was replaced upon the table top, fingers idly stroking the warm cup. "She’ll be fine." The statement was simple, spoken in a voice that most would find boring in its lack of noticeable emotion. Yet that simple statement brought a smile, a thankful smile, to Shane’s previously worried expression. For some reason, hearing it from Taori made it feel like the honest truth. Danse will be fine.

"Yeah…Here, try," Shane held something out to Taori whose golden eyes fell to find that it was one of the chocolate-coated strawberries that had been ordered by the blond. The slightly disgusted expression that Taori took on brought a giggle from the boy across the table. "Why the face?"

Taori huffed, bringing his tea up to drink as if he needed to wash the mere thought of the strawberry’s taste from his mouth. "Disgusting," he grumbled, swallowing his tea as he set his mug down and leered at the chocolate strawberry now bound for Shane’s mouth. "Hn. Don’t expect me to kiss you now." An unexpected comment but one that made the blond giggle again.

Shane liked times like this, when Taori could be open in his own way without having to talk more than he wanted to. He could be at ease. The café was empty, except for the waitress and them so Taori was comfortable; a comfortable Taori was a relaxed, even open Taori.

"Aww~ But it’s just an innocent strawberry. You’re so mean to the innocent strawberries, Tao." Shane teased, taking another strawberry and holding it out like he had the other one. "Don’t be so cruel to the little strawberry!"

Taori snorted, pushing Shane’s hand away as he shook his head. "This coming from the one eating them," he responded, smirking at the pout he was given before the strawberry was submitted to the same fate as its friends. Taori shook his head again, his smirk slipping in to a soft smile that was a rarity in public. This was not a smile for his friends, even…this was a smile for Shay.

The expression was gone, though, relatively soon after appearing, replaced by his normal face. They sat in silence after that, listening to the music coming from the speakers over their table as Shane finished his strawberries. It was not until they stood outside on the icy sidewalk that Shane spoke again, pausing to slip his coat on. "Why wouldn’t you eat them?"

The older boy glanced down, watching as one of Shane’s hands slipped into his. Shane squeezed, smiling warmly up at him. "Hn," Taori’s hand closed around the other’s, gaze lifting to watch a few stray snowflakes fall past the nearest streetlight. "I don’t like sweets."

Shane frowned slightly, contemplating the peculiar response. He did not quite see how ‘not liking’ merited the response Taori had given to the strawberry offer. It seemed more like he hated sweets. "So…what about chocolate? How can you not like chocolate?"

"I like dark chocolate."

Shane blinked, looking up at Taori’s upturned face. "…But Tao…that was dark chocolate."

Gold eyes peered at him, one brow arched. "Was it?"

"Yeah."

Taori turned, looking thoughtfully down at Shane as he considered the announcement. /Dark chocolate, huh?/ Curious, Taori leaned in despite his earlier comment /"Don’t expect me to…"/ to kiss the shorter boy. After a moment he pulled back, head tilted up as he licked his lips. "Hm…I hate strawberries."

Shane laughed, swatting Taori’s arm with his free hand. "You’re so difficult!"

"But you love me."

"Ma~ybe."

"Hmm. Taking you home?"

"…No…?"

A glance, golden eyes questioning beneath arched brows. The usual answer to that question was a ‘yeah, I guess’. "...With me, then?" Shane seemed to perk up and brighten at this, beaming at Taori in a manner that he could not refuse. "Alright."
