Excellent video. While many kids can associate with being picked on in school, few have experienced the intimate rejection by parents and siblings that gay kids have when coming out. It's always astonishing to me how cruel family members can be, that love can turn to hate in a heartbeat.
It is not easy for these kids to talk about themselves. They start opening up when you ask them, "What about what your friends have gone through..." but not when you ask them about themselves
( ... )
My best friend in law school was gay and had yet to tell his parents and he was pushing 30 and had lived on his own for many years. If it's that traumatic for an adult to handle, one can only imagine how much harder it is for teenagers who already have a a lot on their plate. But somehow they're expected to behave better than their supposedly grown-up parents.
