Not what you'd expect from a 16-year-old.
Peter had as his MSN quote: "...I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." -J. Robert Oppenheimer
This convo ensued.
Sal says:
Oppenheimer said that?
Peter says:
Yeah, after detonating the first atomic bomb
Sal says:
Huh. I didn't know that.
Peter says:
He was quoting The Bhagavad Gita. It's occasionally rendered as devourer, I used destroyer because it sounded better.
Sal says:
*nodnods*
I found the quote: "We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, "Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." I suppose we all thought that one way or another." -J. Robert Oppenheimer
Peter says:
We heard that one in Tech.
Sal says:
Yeah? Cool.
Peter says:
They did a program about nuclear weaponry. I didn't actually watch the first part, because they were giving the impression that the footage was from the Nagasaki bomb, then when they stopped doing that, they showed the aftermath, and I especially didn't care to watch the Nagasaki footage.
Sal says:
Why didn't you want to see the Nagasaki footage?
Peter says:
Because the city was manly notable for it's shrines, and I felt that the footage of that city would be worse then Hiroshima.
