...Not one bit. Crow had been absent, though Thing and Digit had food in their bowl. People were disappearing, and she had a feeling that something terrible might befall the tree. Perhaps Edensphere was tired of playing games and was ready to cause some hurt.
"This is too much," Kitty sighed to herself, reaching for another gem to place into a necklace she spent all morning making. The Marketplace was bustling as always, and she found comfort in the murmur, though the Lucky Cat owner wasn't as cheery as her surroundings. Shiro had disappeared too, according to poor Cross, and it made her heart sink to think that she bought a fair amount of miso to surprise him with a lunch for once.
As the girl's hand moved to grab another jewel, she heard a light chiming noise, and turned her head to see if she accidentally hit a wind chime she made. Instead, she noticed that her hand hovered over a very small memory crystal, its ring-like handles orbiting it. Without thinking, she touched it. Instantly, her nose was filled with the scent of dirt and dry rock, and she heard voices whispering from within her mind.
"She is Pinion's older sister..." A man whispered, though the final word came forth as static.
"Taking a child away without telling his family... Is that how you researchers do things!?" Kitty heard herself demand. Kidnapping? Why!?
"His aunt and uncle happily released him into our custody," one male voice answered.
"They said it would be good for him to study with researchers," another added.
"You just want his power! Let go of my brother!!" Her own voice snarled back. Kitty then heard the sound of tearing cloth, a sound of pain, and a cat-like growl.
And then, a woman's terrified scream and a murmur of a small crowd. "SOMEBODY!"
"Claws!"
"A cat girl!?"
"A +Anima!" ... +Anima? The word sounded right. That was what she was, but the word still filled her with sadness.
"Let's go!" One of the first male voiced said, and she heard retreating footsteps. Among the footsteps were much lighter ones, accompanied by a little boy's surprised yelp. Kitty's voice breathed in sharply. They were getting away!
"What are you doing!?" Cried new voices, their footsteps clanking. Armor. Guards!
"Damn...!" I can't stay here... Kitty frowned, the necklace in her hands forgotten.
...Pinion... The sounds faded, and the Marketplace crowd murmur returned. The smell of dry rock and dirt was replaced by the tree sap, the crisp air of the winter day. Kitty hung her head, and pulled down the curtain to obscure her stand. A sign reading OUT TO LUNCH was clear enough for people to see.
Bringing her knees to her chest in her chair, she rest her face upon her knees and silently wept.
