When I was down in it, as you seem to be now, the same thing applied. It would seem as if I was a good friend but other people would get the dates. Thing is, when you are unhappy and depressed it shows, no matter how hard you try to candy coat it, and that's not attractive.

Just give up for awhile, and just live. You need to find something to occupy yourself with, in mycase, as dorky as it was, I played a game(anarchy online)...alot. lol. I managed to get myself into a hobby, cons. These distractions served to make life enjoyable and let me figure out what the hell it was I wanted. Things are never perfect, don't expect it.

And damn it man, don't drive home drunk anymore. My Guild Wars gaming group is always looking for more people. Voice Chat Server + Games = :D

I know exactly what you need. Besides the obvious,which would be a wonderful relationship with someone who makes all the bullshit worth working through. And I know what it is, because I find myself needing exactly the same thing right now. There goes that strange parrallel again.
You need to have a good conversation with someone who listens and helps because they really love you and care deeply about you. And no, that won't be the random girls you meet out, but it could be anyone on quite a long list of people.
