Brother came out to ask for my help on a translation.  It seems the Germans have a very tasteful euphemism for being on the toilet.  The literal translation is being "in your quiet little place."

Anyone got any suggestions for an equally tasteful English translation?

Seriously, probably "using the restroom" would closest to a "quiet little place".

"I have to go powder my nose" although it's rather gendered

Actually, you could say "using the powder room" if restroom is too crass.

My father used to say he was going to read and then recycle the paper.... but I don't know if that quite matches the quiet place.....
