When I was six, the Patchwork Girl was my favorite of all the personages inhabiting the Land of OZ, which is the fairyland that most closely mirrors life in these, our United States. Celtic mythology similarly divides the land into 5 parts. Sometimes it's 5 equal parts, and sometimes 4 parts + 1 center. The fifth part was usually something overlooked, like farmers, or here: migrant workers. But when it moved to the center, it would morph into something superhuman and heroic.
