First one brings to mind Nyman (and gives me piano envy.) Details?

First one is early Wim Mertens single "Struggle for Pleasure," back when he was recording as a sort of new wave jazz combo much like the early Nyman Band or Glass Ensemble. A few more of "their" early videos here.

Second one is from the band Tuxedomoon's somewhat doomed production of a musical version of Strindberg's Ghost Sonata. As the video demonstrates, they were much more taken with their own romantic image, but that tends to be one of the viable ways to stage Strindberg (if someone had an urge to do so).

It so happens that both acts shared a label -- Belgian Factory spinoff Les Disques Du Crepuscule -- and both of these projects are dated 1982. One of the things that impresses me about these two clips together is how young they all were.

Did you fix the signifiers (or maybe "Carnival & Lent" is a single signifier) once you had excavated the videos, or did you start with the ideas and then go digging?

Boring look into my "process" taken to email. In general, anyone who sees a shout-out to themselves in this post is probably correct.

The baby still loves WM. That was all we listened to at night for the first 6 or 7 months.

I take it he helped! His career continues to interest me. It's been almost exactly a quarter century since he started recording (maybe a little longer if you count the video game record), and in that time he's produced close to 50 albums ranging from stand-alone singles to the gigantic 10-disc Gave Van Niets. As far as I can tell, everything is in print ( ... )

I've spent probably about a year in total on Amazon extensions for Jeremiades. I have a couple of the songs from torrenting and what not, but I'd really like to hear the whole album together.

And yes, it did help quite a bit.

You are correct! Not even the Belgians can reliably source that one and I don't think I have a copy either. Can nobody keep their catalog in print any more?
