First off: my credentials...I'm currently a 3rd year Canadian medical student and thankfully we DO learn some stuff about nutrition.
Most women of reproductive age are iron deficient due to losses from menstruation. The recommended daily intake is something like 18mg/d and most people won't get that much from their diet unless you eat a lot of red meat, spinach etc. If you're mildly iron deficient you may not notice it but some people can become symptomatic from their anemia (fatigue).
Don't overdo the iron though, it could make you constipated among other unpleasant things.
So if you're normally eating enough iron (though statistically speaking improbable), then you don't need that extra in your vitamin. But if you find yourself feeling tired a lot then the extra iron may help. Of course any concerns consult your doctor first!
Hope that helps.
