RSC - The extra trip

Nov 16, 2008 13:52

Hi guys! This time I bring a short account of the trip me, my mum, and my best friend (Laura) went on to try and get David's signature (since we missed our chance at Hamlet and Love's Labours Lost). Give me a poke if you were there!

With pictures!

We picked up Laura without a hitch and reached Stratford within the hour. Dad dropped us off outside the "Grosvenor Hotel" and drove off back home. We set off, me needing the loo, and had a poke around the city centre. I myself didn't buy much, but mum managed to get some christmas presents and Laura bought a quill from a Shakespearian gift shop. We had a look around various shops, mostly sovenir or gift shops, and visited a really crazy christmas shop FILLED with decorations and smelling of cinnamon.

Me (on the left) and Laura outside Shakespeare's birthplace.

We'd just come out of a British sovenir shop (full of tat) when we decided we should get to the stage door early (we originally planned to get there half an hour before Loves Labours Lost finished, but decided we should get there even earlier). It was a good thing we did. Me and Laura shuffled into a corner by the bike rack and ended up in the second row of people.

This is how many people were there BEFORE THE PLAY HAD EVEN FINISHED.

Waiting for the play to finish was part of the fun as we were able to talk to mad fans like ourselves. One lady said she'd been waiting at the stage door SINCE THE PLAY HAD STARTED and was the first person to arrive. Laura embarassed me to no end telling someone nearby how she'd seen David's bum (in Takin' Over the Asylum), but I felt just as much a mad fangirl as she did (since I was the one who'd told her to watch TOtA in the first place). XD

From where we were standing we were able to see a t.v screen showing what was happening on stage, so we acted as timers for everyone else in the crowd. We were waiting for around 45 minutes, but that was fine by me. We waved at the security man a few times, but he didn't wave back. Probably thought we were all mad. A short time later after the actors had made their final bows and run off stage, the door opened. My legs turned to mush.

HE. IS. SO. GORGEOUS.

He started off right by us and I really didn't think we'd get our programs signed. Since it was his last day performing in Stratford people gave him presents and things (which were handed straight to the scary body guard). I know I'm going to sound SO cliche when I say this since everyone else who's seen David says this, but he's really tall (and thin) and just so GUH when you're that close. I said "Thank you David" when he signed my program, and Laura was so intent on filming with her camera that she didn't really notice when he signed hers. A few fangirls yelled "I love you David!" and I'm pretty sure he said "I love you too" or "I love everyone". It all happened so fast it was hard to take everything in. He was really thorough in trying to sign everyone's programs, which was nice of him. When he went back in me and Laura screamed and realised we'd both got our programs signed. Mum was especially pleased for us. David has such big and beautiful eyes.

Bless my mum for snapping away taking photos, I don't think I could have managed to take photos and marvel at his wonderful face at the same time.

We left the Stage door VERY HAPPY.

But there was still more to come! We went to the theatre to buy goodies and saw the actor Tom Davey outside having his photo taken and signing autographs (he was pretty handsome too). We asked him to sign our programs and he asked if we'd enjoyed the play and of course we said yes (me being a little too bouncy). We bought various stuff from the theatre shop (including the last set of Loves Labours postcards- wooht wooht) and then left, only to spot Edward Bennett outside a local pub. My mum very nicely asked him if he would sign for us and he did, asking us not to tell the theatre he was having a pint (since he'd be performing Hamlet later on in the day). Not long after that we saw Kathryn Drysdale with her family and kids but we decided not to bother her.

Overall it was VERY, VERY good day. :) Give me a poke if you've spotted yourself in photos or whatever. I hope my english is readable today :P
