29. Most underrated character
Meaning in-universe - for the other characters - or for the viewing audience? Because for the former, meaning pretty much every single other person in their world
there is no question and no disputing, it's the man they called the Headshaker. Nie Huaisang.
The fluffy, determinedly useless and cossetted Second Master of Qinghe with his ten-year trap that no one even knew was happening until it snapped shut.
Mind you, I am not one of those who see him as a long-term overlord of planning, who predicted and calculated each move in advance. To me he was more sneaking around the background (as he did when stalking that bird, we were warned in his first appearance folks!), collecting information and scandal and facts and... people, then throwing them like darts and dealing - swiftly and subtly - with how they landed.
One of the joys of rewatching is keeping an eye on our ruthless little Headshaker and seeing everything we - and all the characters around him - missed the first time round. I really really love him, y'know :)

For the audience... actually, on first watch I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same. However, I would put up a second vote for
the weasel-faced and forgettable (as in can I forget him please?) secondary villain Su She. Who I would bet was totally forgotten by nearly all the viewers when he was chucked out of the Lan sect, and - on his reappearances - probably got a round of "oh, is that whasisname again??" but turned out to be a competent sidekick/villain with some serious skills and a lot of loyalty to Jin Guangyao. And his much speedier revenge bit kicked off the tragic climax of the flashback...
