So I finally got around to seeing Pirates of the Caribbean II. Was it just me, or did the plot make absolutely no sense? Just one thing after another! As soon as the wheel at the abandoned mill appeared I leaned over and whispered to John, "somebody's going to have a swordfight on that wheel ( Read more... )

When I watched Pirates, it very much reminded me of Empire Strikes Back. It's very clearly an interim movie to connect Movie 1 to Movie 3. I suspect the next movie will be much better. Keith Richards comes in as Jack Sparrow's dad!

Sweet! With Keith Richards, it won't even matter if the movie doesn't make sense!

It kind of like writing the first line. You sit there and stare at the screen and you just don't know where or how to start. But once the first line is down, it's easy to connect the rest to it.

Contemplating about how hard writing issues are sometimes results in exagerrated feeling of difficulty. In other words, sometimes it helps to just do it and not think about how hard it is.

My big ones are....

1) Writing is 10% inspiration and 90% persperation.

2) You put your fingers on the keys and you type.

3) It is not too stupid for a first draft. That's what editing is for.

Hah. I likes #3, I do. A lot of writers are blocked by fear of writing suckily, but yeah, that's what's editing is for.

This year's lessons:

We can only write while we're still alive, and I'm not getting any younger.

If the writing is more fun when Hermod is on the page, put Hermod on more pages.
