John is off to a conference in San Jose (I do know the way to San Jose; it's via the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport). He'll be back very late Friday, so until then it's just me, the kids, and my pint of Ben & Jerry's Vermonty Python.

mmmm, the fudge cowsGetting lots of writing done on the novel. Up past 42K. Got some worldbuildy things to ( Read more... )

great story! one of those 'I don't believe it' ones. you have my sympathies on the san jose part. that was last week for me. Skinny cow mint ice cream sandwiches kept appearing in my freezer...how did they get there? dunno.

On the plus side, he used to go to the entire conference, and now he just flies out, gives his talk, and comes straight home. So I'm not a single mom for too long.

Also, it's an excuse to eat Annie's mac n' cheese for dinner...

Oh, I love that story. Gotta figure out how to use that in a novel someday...

Oops. In case that last line wasn't clear, what I meant was: You've gotta figure out how to use that in a novel someday....

Hee! Got it!

I'm not sure I've got a samurai car rescue novel in me...

Well, but see, the glory of the samurai car rescue scene is that it could be inserted into any novel - and it's always a surprise! ("No one expects the samurai car rescue..."). I'm thinking it would be just a side incident for the heroine/hero at the time, but then at the climax of the book when she/he's going off to face the Big Bad and feeling hopeless, suddenly she/he remembers: the samurais! And you get a great kung-fu climax. :)

Great story. Did they really count to three in Japanese or was that authorial privilege? ;-)

I wonder if I saw your husband when I went to pick up Gary from the airport last night? I'll wave in his general direction, though.

They really did count in Japanese. This is a majorly geeky dojo.

You could have seen him, for he arrived last night. Tall, skinny, physics guy? Probably looking very absent-minded? Though no pocket protector.
