As for me, you already know how I feel about goals. :) I keep on making them - even when they don't work out (or not exactly as planned), they always push me further than I would have gotten without them.

I've kept a list of long-term, time-independent goals for a several years now (maybe I'll go and post 'em), but I don't know how much they serve as motivation. I think they're more to remind myself to pay attention to where I've been and where I'm going on this long journey. And since my goals aren't linked to any particular time frame, I don't feel bad when I haven't accomplished one, because it's not really that I haven't accomplished it, it's only that I haven't accomplished it yet.

I hope you'll post your goals, 'cos I think putting them out there for all the world to see makes them even more real, if that makes any sense.

I set goals, too. I think my major failing is that I tend to set times on the shorter term ones that end up being unrealistic. Still, I have been surprised at how many of my goals I meet when I don't even refer to them for months.
Setting the dream goals does feel wierd, but sort of empowering, too. As if just writing down makes it possible. :)

Yes, exactly. I can't believe that I wrote down some of those goals, but seeing them in print makes them real.
Greg's idea might be a good one for you (?): don't put time limits on things...
