So, I may have mentioned to a few of you that all this distressing non-drinking of alcohol was something to do with the Percy Pud 10k on Sunday... in which I had hoped to better my 2007 PB of 38 minutes 20
( Read more... )
1) your heart rate is not lazy, it's because you're fit, you muppet 2) i find that just using a stopwatch does the trick and having to work out complicated maths (like multiples of 6 or 7- hah!) distracts me from the running for a bit. 3) well done you, it's still a flippin excellent time for a 10k 4) I am having unholy thoughts about sheffield half. want to "persuade" me?
1) My average for the whole run was 150 (rarely above 155); my max HR is theoretically 183 (220-37) and I seriously don't think I could have run much faster. So I guess my max HR (which has little to do with fitness level) may be somewhat less than 183...
2) The instantaneous pace readout was useful. Several times I felt like crap, realised I was doing 3:45/km, and realised it was safe to slow down a little ;-)
3) Thank you ;-) The only reason it feels slightly anticlimactic is that it was some way short of that PB, which was certainly not a realistic prospect after my enforced layoff. It's two-and-a-half whole minutes quicker than my September time - but then I was running as a girl ;-)
4) I've got suckered into doing that with people from work! You should try, you've done several 10Ks now and it's still a few months away...
4) I seem to have "accidentally" picked up 2 entry forms from up and running today...
I did the 10k's a while ago though, more than a year. I need to get back in practice. Runnersworld do a tailor made training plan if you put in details like a previous 10k time and how hard and how often you want to train. It's given me a training plan that looks dead easy (starting with 2 miles at 13min mile pace) so just have to commit now! Also picked up a leaflet for steel city striders to see if they are less draconian than George!
Damn, forgot to mention that it is E and I's anniversary today. So we're going for a meal at Mama Mia's. While I can't rule out ending up at the HH, it would be bad form to insist on it ;-)
Wow, who is this bionic cyberman? What have you done with our Dave? And a minute slower? Are you over the hill - I guess you must be as it's a downhill to the finish. Regardless of any jibes I might make, under 40 is fantastic, a zone I can only dream of, well done.
I'm interested in what you say about heartrate. My experience is is that I can make 165-170 over 10k in a race but theoretically it shouldn't be this high for this long. When I'm doing training runs and am in shape I find that I strugle to push hard enough to get over 160 without another runner to chase.
Anyway, well done. Have you eaten the pud yet? I still remember you tempting me over the line with one when i ran it.
Gah! he did that to me as well, when I was feeling like throwing up!
And double gah! at both of your superfit heart rate, if I was running percy pud route my heart rate would get up into the 180's. I am woefully unfit :(

I think I could have devoured that pudding on the finish line, but Erica instructed me before the race to 'come back with the pudding or on it'!
I did enquire whether 'outside it' was an option but she was not to be moved ;-)
