What I previously assumed to be the cry of a fisher was in fact the cry of a red fox.

Makes sense, as I did see foxes in our area.

Turns out fishers' calls are a little lower-pitched, shorter, and way more frequent.

Hearing this underneath your window in the middle of the night pretty much sucks.

And how long did it take you to get back to sleep?

At mom's-- during high school and first-year summer. Oy vey, I tell you.

The first time it took a fairly long while :P After that I just assumed that a rabbit had just died, or something, and it didn't take quite as long.
