SalonCon Charitable Works 2008
Gentle readers,
A big part of how I got involved with conventions was to start a charitable aspect to the first convention I worked on. I do feel that charity is a very important aspect to running a business and we choose our charities very carefully.
We have selected RAINN as our 2008 charity. RAINN is the Rape and Incest National Network, it is the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization.
RAINN was voted one of “America’s 100 Best Charities" by Worth magazine.
There will be numerous ways for you to donate to RAINN at SalonCon:
1. There will be purple ribbons for a donation of $1 at the registration table.
2. There will be a Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab auction during the meetup. We will be auctioning off the entire steamworks collection piece by piece along with a few surprises.
3. We will be doing a 50/50 raffle where we will announce the winner at the beginning of the Masked Ball Events. Tickets will be $2 each, or 3 for $5. The more tickets you buy, the bigger the pot to win (and go to charity!) is.
4. We will be starting a VIP ticket auction here.
5. Catherynne M. Valente is very generously donating her complete works individually autographed to the winner along with extra goodies (BPAL yuki_onna! A year's membership for the Omikuji Project! And more!) for silent auction at our registration table with the incredibly low starting price of $50. Her books alone are worth over $150.
Please help us raise money for this very important cause.
