For those of you who are unfamiliar with Catherynne M. Valente's work, she is most famous for her gorgeous fairy tales (Orphan's Tales, Vol. I & II), which won the prestigious Tiptree award and her skinpunk revolution, Palimpsest. She was featured in MTV News' documentuary on the Steampunk movement and is a beloved member of the convention scene

Cat, you might consider serializing The Girl on to the Kindle. Get active on the boards there and spread the word. I'll bet you can make at least some money doing this. I know I'm seriously considering putting my unpubbed suspense novel up there because I'm almost in the same boat you are. My unemployment will be gone by October, and I've been job hunting for months now.
