If only you could tattoo a big fat R on their foreheads...

It's high time we held rapists responsible for rape, instead of nitpicking whatever victims were doing at the time.

OBVIOUSLY, the legal system (I refuse to call it the "justice" system) and the police are largely incompetent in dealing with this gross injustice and terrorism against women. The fact that most, if not all women, have the possibility ( Read more... )

I want to stand up and applaud. This is amazing and so true.

I was happy that I got through to a friend recently. He argued that defense lawyers are neccesary in all cases, even rape, because everyone deserves a fair trial. I argued back that unlike murder, drunk driving other felony trials, women are often being attacked by the legal system, and many cases, especially those against sex workers or women of colour are thrown out due to a racist, sexist and biased system dominated by men. Although Ive encountered many an idiot who have spewed many a rape myth at me (Because, a simple "Are you okay? How are you doing? is an illogical response in our society), I was just happy someone understood.

I think the blog would work, if you could find some way to keep yourself and the women contributing anonomous, so no one could trace them for slander.

You are brilliant and amazing. Bless.

Pfft. I bet rapists could go to trial sans a lawyer and STILL win.

Rapist: "Crazy bitch is lying! She's a slut and she's just trying to get revenge on me for dumping her."

Jury: "Yeah, she was basically asking for it. I wouldn't have drank so much/worn that outfit/gone out at that hour."

You don't see people telling the family of a murder victim, "your daughter was asking to be killed."

Good on you and that friend for getting it. I'm so used to trying to explain such concepts to people that when I encounter Someone Who Gets It, I'm truly surprised. But it's the good fight. Let's keep fighting it.

What you need is a person who knows about media law. I think you should e-mail my old media law professor, Sue Carter. http://cas.msu.edu/modules.php?name=Contacts&op=details&id=103&type=U&department_id=0&position_id=0

If you have a plan to do that sort of blog (which I think you should) I think you should ask professionals on what is the best method to approach the blog. If Sue Carter can't give you an answer just ask her if she knows someone who would. If you feel that it is that important to you, don't let anything stop you, because it will not only help you but anyone else in pain.

I am just wondering, what made you want to write this blog today? Did someone say or do something to defend rapists or something?

I've been thinking of a way to make a positive difference in the area of sexual assault ever since the incident in my life. Not 24/7, but every so often. At first I was more concerned with reforming the law enforcement systems, but found after more consideration that the way the systems are set up makes significant reform very difficult. And I don't have the expert knowledge on these systems...just expert tips that might come in handy later on ( ... )

That does sound really good. I hope that your ideas do form into something productive.

I think your idea does have a wonderful start, and I wish I could think of a thousand things to add to it to help. (I guess my creative side isn't coming out right now) but either way, I know you can do it!
