So I kind of got suckered into knitting a couple of pairs of socks.
I've never knitted a pair of socks before so this is kind of cool. I've knitted single socks, but no pairs. Second-Sock- Syndrome...I've got it bad.
But not this time!!! Mwahahahaha!
A friend's mother gave me two balls of Lion Brand
Sock-Ease last Saturday. In return, I'm supposed to teach her how to knit socks next time I visit. I understand that it's just her way of telling me that I must accept her gift of yarn, but I also know this stuff is not cheap and so I feel kind of obligated to do something with it.
I already own several balls of the discontinued
Magic Stripes sock yarn and I've only knitted one lonely sock with it. :(
I tried to do that technique where you knit both socks at the same time using two circular needles, but the
Boye circular needles that I bought were HORRIBLE and useless. Luckily, I have three sets of size-2 double-pointed needles so I just have both socks going separately.
The sock in progress:

My gauge there is about 32 sts per 4" on a set of five size-2 DPNs,
They're both about 4" longer now than when that picture was taken.
The stripes aren't as bright in person. I'm not digging the orange, but it is appropriate for fall.
The second ball is pink, purple and white...cute, but still not me. Actually, I'm not a fan of any of the Sock-Ease colorways.
The pattern is kind of a mish-mash. The toe is from
this Coriolis Sock Pattern. The long-wear heel is from
this sock pattern. And the twist and rib texture is something I came up with. (I think it looks kind of silly now, but it's too late to change it. It's kind of got a '70's vibe.)
It's knitted from the toe-up so that I can try it on as I go. And also to make sure I have enough yarn...there's nothing worse than spending hours knitting from the cuff-down and then running out of yarn near the end of the toe.
Both socks are almost done now but I still haven't decided on a bind-off.
And as background noise I've been watching The Karate Kid trilogy on
Hulu...what has become of me?!
BTW: I won't be able to read another
knitting blog without thinking about that
crazy lady who starved her step-daughter. So
creepy!
