You totally picked out my favorite parts. And they're the ones I agonized over the longest. The drawing was pretty much done about 3 weeks ago and I was stuck on his hands until yesterday.
I have to ask, is the deadness of his fake eye distracting here?
This is just wonderful. So much intensity and emotion.
The shading is gorgeous, his hands are fantastic, and it's always interesting to see how artists depict his scar.
You had asked someone about whether or not his fake eye is distracting - I am always thinking that it should be more prominent in fan art, the anime, even the manga.
It is a very significant part of his physicality, and also recalls the events that led him to having the artificial eye.
It's certainly more subtle than his scar, but, IMO, a very important detail.
I think the towel was a good choice, actually. Hakkai has a certain modesty - a part of his gentlemanly disposition.
It also encourages people to look at more of the art than just his bits. LOL
I was trying to show Hakkai looking in the mirror and seeing remnants of all of the things that happened to him in his life. His scar, his eye, the limiters, his thinness from being on the road so long, and the bitterness in his face from past events. He is usually so carefully hidden behind his perfect clothes and manners, but there has to be times when it all shows.
And he actually looks naked-er with the towel there than he did before I added it in. Perhaps the titillation comes from it being a "movable" object? haha!

I have to say the part that captures my attention the most is his eyes and his facial expression. Impressive considering he's mostly naked...
You are brilliant! I love his hands too..hell, everything is brilliant!

I think that's why I find his facial expression so arresting in this picture!

When I first did it, they were too different and he totally looked googly-eyed like he was knocked in the head! XD
