The shipyard diaries. Saturday the somethingth.

I woke up, completely sober and aware around 0030.  I watched some streaming from netflix.  I'm watching "the Office" usa style.  I am enjoying it because there are so many different personalities in play, as opposed to the original.  However, the never-ending dramaz, as opposed to the original, both poke and yank my heartstrings and I end up as ( Read more... )

I started watching back to front. I reversed myself, and I just finished the Casino episode. Maybe season 3? It makes me so very sad because Michael Scott strikes so many chords with me. David Brent, much less so, but the "JIM" character, which garners much sympathy from me in the UK version, elicits almost zilch with the USA version. Namely, because "jim" (or whatever the fuck his name is) in the UK is EMINENTLY believable and identifiable, the analogue in the USA version is just another stereotype to emulate. If you dig. Anyway. The UK version had the advantage of being finite. On the other hand, the USA version gives us character conflict with the HR dude and Scott, which I find is more humorous than any situation the UK version lent us.

Anyway, I'm going back to listen to my HAT FM.

The thing about Jim v. Tim (no wonder I couldn't figure out tim's name...) is that Tim is a true underdog, with his believable shyness and respect for Dawn's relationship and physical inferiority of Dawn's fiancee. Where as Jim is the kind of guy that I have a hard time believing that he wouldn't be going out and picking up chicks left and right, no matter how bright a torch he holds for Pam. He's on an even playing field with Pam's boyfriend, in both attractiveness and the whole male physical dominance thing (e.g. when he nails pam's fiancee in the basketball episode ( ... )

That's interesting. I was channel surfing and came up on Days of Our Lives.
I don't recognize a soul on the show anymore.

And what really really pissed me off, was that we'd get an NPR station in the truck, and just when Wait Wait Don't Tell me came on, we'd always lose the signal.
Fuck Click and Clack.
And Michael Feldman? The Wisconsin accent soothes me a might, but I'd throw you in lake Michigan for Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.

The NPR reception in RI is negligible, and I can totally identify with the sorrow of losing signal during "wait wait". Click and clack are NOTHING like they used to be, however I still enjoy them because of local humor.

As far as "days"? After I started working on ships, I would still follow the weekly recaps, but after the suddenly "evolved" all the children into 17 year olds over night, it became a completely different show.

I also got all caught up in the whole "General Hospital" craze in the seventies (early eighties?) and can't believe that I actually watched the "Luke rapes Laura" in the back room of his Disco with my mother and sisters when I was probably seven or eight.

That whole Luke and Laura thing had me too.
Have you seen what Luke looks like these days?

God we're getting old.
