I just had a conversation with a friend about Twilight and it actually disturbed me a little in the end. I guess the main draw for most women (that are into Twilight) is the extreme romance between Edward and Bella, but it really doesn't seem all that new or different from girls who like shitty Bon Jovi copyrock of the 90s and overly expressive emo ( Read more... )

I talked to said friend not that long after we had this conversation and I made this brainexploded post and things returned to normal pretty quickly. lol I think what sort of freaked me out was that I was getting the impression she was buying into all of it and since she is completely normal and awesome it was like this scary fucking wake-up call that the Twilight fangirl freakout might not be all that absurd. I apparently could not handle that being a reality. lol

It is depressing. But based on our conversations in the past, you seem like a normal 20-something guy, so I assume your friend is also in the same bracket. There's hope for her!

The thing that pisses me off is all these 12 year olds who honestly believe that their boyfriends should follow them around like puppies on short leashes, then be psychologically and verbally abusive to them. THAT'S depressing.

Twilight (the movies) sucked hard, and the books shouldn't be read by anyone under the age of 17. The fact that the 4th book encourages teenage pregnancy is enough to put a warning on it.

I agree and I've heard people say somewhat frequently that this really isn't ideal for "kids" because it gives a really fucked up impression of love if you can't disassociate the story elements from real life. I love the phrase "parents, talk to your kids about Edward Cullen."

ps. am I going to have to wait months before you institute an icon on this account toooo? lol

MAKE? As you're surely aware I'm slightly retarded, but I'd be more than happy to reach into my little bag of mysteries for some!
