Timeline: Volume 5, right before she dies
Background: (Headcanon/Fanon is denoted in blue.)
In the year 1833, Diva and Saya were born in Bordeaux, France. A wealthy merchant, Joel Goldschmidt, built "the Zoo", a place where he collected exotic plants and animals. Somehow, Joel managed to purchase the body of a mummified monster known as Saya. It was heavily pregnant, and when Joel cut Saya open, he found two cocoons, which contained twin baby girls. As an experiment, Joel raised the baby with reddish-brown eyes as his daughter, whom he named Saya after her mother. The blue-eyed baby was sealed into a tall tower on the outskirts of the Zoo. She was never given a name.
Over the next 40 years, Saya was raised in luxury while Joel performed experiments on the unnamed girl. Both girls needed human blood to survive, so Saya was given a glass of blood everyday under the guise of taking medicine, while humans were brought straight to Diva, where they would be torn apart by Diva. One day while walking through the grounds, Saya heard singing and began to talk to the girl in the tower. When the girl told Saya she did not have a name, Saya gave her the name of "Diva", because of her beautiful singing voice. One of Joel's helpers, Amshel, began to talk to Diva when bringing her humans to feed from. A charistmatic man, he convinced Diva to give him her blood and make him a Chevalier, an immortal servant. Angered by Saya's infatuation with her newest servant, Hagi, Diva wanted Amshel to free her from the prison. However, Amshel came up with a better idea: have Saya open the door, so he would be blameless.
So, on the day of Joel's birthday in the year 1882, Diva convinced Saya to unlock the door and let her free. So, swiping the key from Amshel's room and bringing Diva a dress to wear, Saya unlocked the door before leaving to return to Joel's party. Hagi, looking for Saya, went to the top of the tower and found Diva. Mistaking her for Saya, Hagi rushed forward in concern at her partially-undressed state. And as soon as he came close, Diva drove her hand through Hagi's torso, grinning widely in happiness. Putting on the dress Saya gave her, Diva and Amshel headed to the party. Saya, having gone looking for Diva, found Hagi dying in the tower. While Saya gave Hagi her blood and made him a Chevalier, Diva busied herself with happily slaughtering the party guests. When Saya and Joel returned to the party, Saya was shocked at Diva's gleeful killing spree. There, Amshel revealed that Saya was not a human, and was also one of Joel's guinea pig. And when Diva cheerfully told Saya that she had 'killed' Hagi, Saya went berserk, destroying anything and everyone in the area while Amshel took Diva and fled the Zoo. Joel's son, David, formed a group called Red Shield in an attempt to help Saya destroy all the chiropterans.
Over the next hundred years, Saya and Hagi chased Diva and Amshel across Europe and Asia, intent on killing her and the chiropterans - vampiric monsters that were failed attempts at turning men into Chevaliers. Due to the poisonous nature of her blood, men often died when trying to become Chevaliers. Since only Saya's blood could kill Diva, and vice versa, Saya spent her time killing chiropterans in an effort to find Diva. For some unexplained reason, Diva and Saya began to fall into deep sleeps every few years, wrapping themselves in cocoons and awakening after around thirty years. Diva turned a young boy named Carl into her Chevalier so she would have a playmate, and over the next one hundred years Amshel convinced her to turn three more men into Chevaliers: Solomon, Nathan, and James. Solomon took over a small company known as Cinq Flèches and began to manufacture drugs with trace amounts of Diva's blood to be distributed across the world. To test the effectiveness of the drugs, Amshel had Diva sing her song in Vietnam. Diva's song changed the humans into chiropterans, and Saya was forcibly awakened from her sleep to destroy them. However, she went berserk and killed everyone and everything in sight.
In the year 2003, Diva and Saya awakened from their 30-year sleep. Diva continued to let Amshel do as he wished, giving him her blood when he needed more in exchange for him occasionally bringing her men to sleep with in an attempt to become pregnant. As time passed, more and more people across the world began to receive the Cinq Flèches pharmaceuticals, not knowing what it did but enjoying the increased strength that came with taking the drugs. When Diva found out Saya had killed Carl, Diva threw a fit, tearing apart several human servants in her anger. However, the moment Diva heard that Saya turned her adoptive brother Riku into a Chevalier to prevent him from dying, Diva cheered up, demanding to go to the Red Shield's headquarters to retrieve her newest bridegroom.
Gathering together her remaining four Chevaliers, they headed to Red Shield, landing on the gigantic yacht with a bang. While James and Nathan distracted Saya and Hagi, Amshel and Solomon went and took Riku. Amshel allowed Diva to sing her song, which caused Saya to once again go berserk and kill James. Nathan escaped back to Diva, who showed very little sadness for James' death, stating that she only cared about Amshel now that Charles was dead. Bored, Diva took a nap as Saya wreaked havoc on the ship. Diva eventually woke up and decided on her own to go find Saya. Finding her, Diva seemed to think that Saya's declaration to kill her was a game. Grabbing the ship's anchor, Diva tried to crush Saya. When that failed, Diva attacked her directly, seemingly put-out that Saya was weaker than she remembered. And out of nowhere, Diva told Saya about her dream: to turn all the humans in the world into chiropterans. Angered, Saya slapped Diva, yelling at her that humans weren't toys, finally telling her that she would kill herself after killing Diva.
Diva, finally realizing that Saya wasn't just playing a game with her, was so shocked that she didn't even dodge Saya's sword strike. At the last second, Amshel swept her away from Saya's sword. Angered, Diva attacked Nathan, beating him into a pulp with her fists as she cried. The ship suddenly began to sink, forcing Amshel to grab Diva and Nathan and flee. When she calmed down, Solomon gave Riku to Diva, whom jumped on Riku so she could "mate" with him. However, when he called her Saya, she began to cry. Explaining to Riku that he was now a Chevalier, Riku asked Diva if she had a Chevalier named Charles. When she described Carl to him, and told him that Saya had killed him, Riku called her a liar. Angry, Diva began to strangle him and was stopped by Solomon. But when she scratched Solomon's face while struggling to get away from him, Solomon became enraged, telling Diva he was sick of her and Amshel and stormed out, Riku right behind him.
Over the next three months, the existence of chiropterans became public knowledge due to an outbreak of the drug-induced monsters. Amshel had Nathan organize a public opera show for Diva to sing her song, so that it would reach the entire world. Saya tried to stop Diva before she could reach the stage, but Amshel disguised himself as Diva, allowing her to get onto the stage and turn all the humans taking the drug that heard her song into chiropterans. By the time Saya reached Diva, the entire opera house was filled with chiropterans.
And then suddenly, Diva wasn't in the opera house anymore.
Personality: Diva is like a very large child. Because she spent the first 49 years of her life locked into a tower, she never matured mentally and never learned the basic morals that would be taught to anyone. She has a very black and white view of the world; something either is or it isn't in her eyes and if it ends up being different, Diva gets upset. She has no understanding of consequences and has no problem killing people or destroying things when she throws a tantrum. She also doesn't understand fear. She doesn't fear pain or illness or death, because with her healing ability she doesn't have to worry about them. The only thing she does fear is being locked away all by herself again.
However, when she's not angry or upset, Diva is a very happy, very impressionable person. She'll believe almost anything someone tells her and is easily manipulated with the right words. She is easily amused, but just as easily becomes bored. And because of her lack of tact, Diva will make sure everyone around her knows what she's feeling. She definitely thrives on instant gratification, almost completely unable to live or plan for the future. Surprisingly, Diva is extremely loyal. If someone does something to make her happy, they instantly become her best friend and they'll stay that way unless they anger her. However, people she doesn't know or doesn't like are labeled as toys and/or snacks.
Appearance: Diva is physically 17 years old. She's almost inhumanly beautiful, with pale skin, blue eyes, and long black hair that falls to her knees. She's thin, yet very, very busty, and all-together looks very innocuous. However, she has fangs, and when preparing to either fight or feed, her eyes glow a bright, neon blue.
Spoken / written languages: French, Italian, English, and Russian.
Abilities: Diva is basically a living vampire. She is able to lift things that weigh a several tons and shatter metal with her bares hands, and is so fast that she appears as a blur. Diva is basically immortal due to almost instantaneous regeneration, with the only stated way she can be killed is with her sister's blood (however, if her body is destroyed or maimed to where she can't regenerate, she can die.) Her blood, when ingested orally, can change that person into what is known as a chevalier - humanoid chiropterans capable of turning parts or all of their body into the monstrous bodies of the lesser chiropterans. Chevaliers can only be killed if their body is mutilated beyond their ability to regenerate.
On the Elegante, Diva will only be about three times stronger than a normal girl of her physical age and twice as fast. Her regeneration will no longer be instantaneous. Shallow wounds will heal within an hour, while much more severe wounds (broken bones, etc.) will take at least two days to fully heal. Wounds that would be considered fatal to a human can now kill her, since they can't heal fast enough. She no longer has the ability to turn people into Chevaliers, though her blood is still poisonous.
Items: Her clothing, which is a fancy formal dress.
Third Person Sample: Diva was angry.
This wasn’t exactly a new occurrence, but this was a different kind of anger. For once Diva felt pure, unadulterated rage that couldn’t be solved just by tearing apart humans or destroying her room.
Her sister - her darling sister Saya - thought she was better than Diva. Saya had killed Carl, her dear little playmate. And then she took away Solomon and her youngest husband candidate.
It wasn’t fair! Why was her sister the only one that got to have a family? Why wasn’t Saya letting her have a chance to make her own family? What made Saya think she could hog everyone all to herself? Even one of her own Chevaliers could only think about Saya!
Saya Saya Saya.
It was getting on Diva’s nerves.
She scowled the entire time the servants did her hair and makeup. She scowled as they picked a lovely dress for Diva’s international show.
Diva finally came to a decision when Amshel and Nathan escorted her out to a car.
Saya had done nothing but hurt Diva since she had been set free from the tower. Saya had been her dearest sister for a long, long time. But when Diva set her free from that human Joel, Saya had been angry. Saya had tried to kill her.
Instead of letting Saya kill her, Diva was going to kill Saya. Saya didn’t love her anymore, and it hurt. Diva hated Saya.
No, Diva hated everyone. Only Amshel had stayed with her no matter what. Even Nathan, stupid stupid Nathan, hadn’t come to see her.
So Diva was going to hurt Saya back and turn all the humans into Chiropterans. Then Diva was going to kill Saya’s family and make her suffer before she killed her.
And maybe then there would be no one left to hurt Diva anymore.
First Person Sample: [There's the sound of someone messing with the buttons before a young girl starts to speak, voice sing-songy.]
Amsheeeeeel?
Amshel?
[Her next word has an edge of anger.]
Amshel.
[And then just as quickly, she sounds happy again.]
Well, since Amshel won't answer me, would someone be so kind as to tell me where I am? I want to go home. How can I make my big debut if I'm not there to sing?
...I'm bored! Does someone want to play a game with me?
