I hadn't planned on going to A Day in the Middle East, but since the fabulous mmcnealy is going to be elevated to the Order of the Laurel there, I'll be in attendance. I have no Middle Eastern garb, and while I know it's not a requirement, I've kind of gotten the bug to make a new outfit. I'm thinking of recreating this portrait. It's Venetian, not ( Read more... )

I LOVE that Titian portrait! Hey - it hangs in the Ufizzi in Florence. That's close enough to Florentine, isn't it? ;-)

Could you over-dye the wool satin to either change or take the edge off of the violent purple?

Actually, that Titian is in the National Gallery in DC. I'd love to take a field trip to see her in person (especially as I can't find a decent sized pic online), but I doubt that's going to happen between now and then.

I did think about overdyeing the wool satin, but I'm concerned about messing it up. Also, since it's already a strong color, I feel like the end result is less predictable than I would like. It is an option, though.

Yup. It is in the National Gallery. And you would look awesome in that getup.

I am thinking about making a Turkish outfit (not that one) for DME as well, but I am not sure I have the time.

Sigh.

You're right. I was thinking of "La Bella," and the plethora of other Titians in the Titian room at the Ufizzi. At least this painting is close by.

I admit that I don't know that much about over-dying. When I have questions about dying fabric, I as Vitha. She is much more knowledgeable in that area than I.

In either case - good luck!

I DID do one based on that portrait. And we held a 'turkish coat' workshop so some of the other ladies in the barony could make theirs too. Our baroness looks particularily lovely in hers. It is a very flattering outfit. You, with your hair and your figure, are going to look knock-out fabulous in yours.
