That was just wonderful. Andrew in all his unctuous, self deluded glory, only not as self deluded as he would like to be.

Lovely conversation with Faith - "You look like a ferret with a hot pepper shoved up his ass." The girl knows how to cut to the chase *g*

Really excellent. Now I'm craving a cough drop :)

ETA I didn't notice the part 2 - so I'll go back and read the first part tomorrow when I get the chance! (stupid sparrow...)

Andrew Wells is fun to write because even when he's trying to go against his usual instincts, he goes full tilt into "Storyteller" mode. Andrew needs to play a role to justify his existence. "Loyal retainer" fits perfectly.

Mind you, his appearances in "Damage" and "Girl In Question" indicate he does understand the term "obfuscating stupidity". He gamed Team Angel perfectly in "Damage"--acting like the nitwit they expected him to be, then using them as stalking horses to find Dana so his own team could sweep in. I'm half-convinced "Girl In Question" was a humiliation conga orchestrated by Andrew to keep them away from Buffy.

Ha, Andrew really is a clueless plutz. Funny, oblivious stuff.

I like the way you've nailed Andrew in this. He may be drowning in melodrama and hyperbole but clearly not stupid - or useless.

I don't agree with your assessment of him in 'Damage' given that he was mostly sent as an insult to Angel, and the idea of him being in charge of slayers boggles the mind (My theory is that one of the slayers was really in charge under orders to humour Andrew, just to ensure he annoyed Angel and co the the maximum degree possible), but I still like this nuanced view of Andrew, particularly the last scene between him and Faith where parallels are drawn.

Terrific look inside Andrew's funhouse-mirror mind. He's so desperate for a recognizable role that when he finds one (Jarvis!), he latches on for dear life. He even makes it work, mostly, but people are not roles. Jonathan might've actually understood that...

I am very impressed with Faith's restraint under the the assault of all those "madames". ;-)
