In reply to your comment: no, they shouldn't be that fragile. But that's not the half of it. A cell phone could do things you'd never think it'd be capable of- but the phone companies don't want them to. I don't mean unimplemented features, either; they're crippled in a way that'd make Diana Moon Glampers proud. The only reason they're fragile, though, is so that they break easy, and then you have to go buy a new one.

Re: cell phones.
I've been with Sprint for years because my legacy voice and data plan is soooo cheap. We don't insure our PDA phones ($6-7/mo each) because over time for us it's been cheaper to buy a new one when needed.
We love the Treo. My better half loves the Centro, effectively a Treo on a sexy diet. even my son uses a Treo. I've been considering the Samsung Instinct [http://www.instinctthephone.com/] as a possible iPhone wanna be but so far Palm phones rules at our house.
Insurance is $6 a month. Shea's last phone went through the washer when I failed to check her jeans pocket. Since then I've checked her jeans pocket and found the phone several times right before dumping it in the wash. Although, I didn't realize there was a $50 deductible. Not worth it for the bottom line flip phone which I can replace at Target for $19.
