I'm going to be just full of postiness today because I have lots of novel questions. And yes, I did spend some time last night watching videos on YouTube of sheep being born. It's that kind of book. Anyway, things I need to know today are ( Read more... )

I'm typically a size six in dresses, skirts, and shirts that are sized that way, and I'm about 135, give or take a couple of pounds.

(we will not discuss the wide range of pants sizes I have, that all fit the same despite being a vast variety of sizes!)

Pants are a nightmare, I agree, and they must be even worse for someone like you who is so tall. I have everything from Size 0 (anything from Banana Republic or Abercrombie, mostly thrift store finds) to Size 6 (H&M's juniors section). I wish they would just size women's pants the way they do mens, like, with actual MEASUREMENTS. They do that with the super expensive jeans (another consignment shop goody), where in low rise jeans I was a quite logical 27x30.

(I've ended up mostly buying men's pants for just this reason. It doesn't change the fact that a 28-inch waist and 44-inch hips means a huge gap at the waistband, but women's pants did that to me too...)

I miss finding men's jeans in the right measurements - for years I was buying men's jeans a size too big to get low rise before low rise was everywhere in women's (and TOO low-rise, at that!)

It *really* depends on how tall you are - a size six who's almost 6' (like Roly) may well weigh up to 50 pounds more than one who's 5', and that's without even getting into build, muscle mass, etc. Or the fact that women's clothing sizes were fucked up royally even before vanity sizing started. :)

What sort of jewelry it is and where you take it are necessary variables, too. One hint - check out the newspaper classifieds under the "jewelry" heading for a good, accessible cross-section of offerings and prices.

I'm 5'2 and about 115lbs (give or take) - I seem to fluctuate between a size 2 and 4, though a 6 sometimes work. Sizes have also SHIFTED in the last few years, because I was ALWAYS a 6, and even an 8. And I am REALLY not that different in size now....

I've noticed this, too; as broke as we are, I don't shop for clothes nearly as much as I used to when I was single, so now, from the twice a year I go into the gap to check their sale section, I've discovered that I'm now firmly a 1, rather than the reliable 2 I always used to be. Now, I've lost a little weight, but not THAT much. Old Navy, where I frequently buy my clothes because of their reasonable prices, took a little longer, but just this summer they seem to have done the size dance too; the pair of $8 shorts I bought there over the weekend are a perfect-fitting 1, whereas I used to be a 2, and even sometimes a 4 there (I'm about 5'5, 107lbs). I don't know if the size-shifting actually makes heavier people feel better, but it is definitely approaching sizing me right out of finding clothes that fit!

Hmm.....I replied below, but I haven't been shopping in a million years other than for baby stuff. I do remember trying on dresses with Beth last year and being surprised that the 4s were big on me, AFTER having had a baby. This was at the Gap and Express.

What it actually depends on is brand. Women's sizes are woefully unstandardised - I wear a 12-14 in most of the brands I buy, but I wear around a 6 in Gap (yet an 8-10 in Old Navy, go figure).

I'm 5'10" and about 155lb, for reference.

I seem to recall being somewhere around a 6 when I was 135lb. But I was also an American Eagle/Gap 2 then ...

I'd wager that a tall woman (5'8" and up) would be a six if she were around 125-135lb. Any shorter, and I'd reckon the weight would decrease to 110-125.

It also depends on muscle/fat. I'm a size 4 or 6 (depending on clothing item and store purchased) and pre-preggers I weighed 110-115. But remember I'm like wicked shot.
