I haven’t squee-ed so much since...
... probably about ten years ago when I saw this:
It was that first glimpse of Gandalf in his cart, riding up the laneway to Bag end. I was transfixed by that at the time because it looked exactly as I’d imagined it.
However, at the time I wasn’t particularly tempted to see the films. Would they do the tale justice? How on earth could this be convincing live action film? Wasn’t it better to keep this as a place I went to in my imagination, rather than something pinned down (up?) on a 40’ screen.
But, in the end, I did go. And never was quite the same again, as they say.
Yesterday at work I sneakily watched this:
And was shouting (silently) ‘Look! There’s the bench outside Bag End, there’s the path, the gate...THERE’S THE GREEN DRAGON INN!!!!!’ Seeing ‘home’ in Middle-earth one more time.
So squeeeeeeeeeee. And roll on December 2012.
