Turning back time

Sometimes before I go to sleep I try and retrace my footsteps. I try to open the door of the house I grew up in, walk down the hallway, peek into Mum and Dad’s room (on the right) and the lounge room (on the left), through to the kitchen - quite literally the heart of the house - and then out via the sunroom (which used to be smaller+the boys ( Read more... )

How interesting. I wonder if there's anything on Youtube about the little town I grew up in.

It would be great to see - it's so interesting to see how much has changed...and how much has stayed the same.

That was such a fun video to watch--thanks Sam! I love seeing old pictures like that too. It's funny how the main thing I notice about it now is how everything looks more noticible for the time period than the place for me, since I've never been to Sydney. There are so many movies like this that look so much the same no matter what the country. Even the music sounds the same ( ... )

OMG! OMG!

I read Shirebound's comment and it inspired me to go to YouTube to see if there were any movies about my town. I chose the first one and the very first house you see it...MY HOUSE!!! It doesn't have any historic photos, but that kind of surprised me. (The Pelham Picture House project did really well--Alan Rickman came last year, I think, to open a movie. They have classes etc. Though recently a kid wrote a letter to the paper complaining that they needed to show more kid-friendly movies. Anyway, that makes me happy because I used to work there and for a while it was going to get converted into a bank when it was one of the oldest art deco theaters in the country. Luckily they saved it.)

What a beautiful place! So many beautiful Art Deco buildings. The other things I notice are the different traffic lights (ours are on trees like lamposts, yours are suspended over the road) and quite distinctively American architecture. AND THAT'S MAGPIE'S HOUSE!!!

You're right about the old films, they're all from the newsreel school of film-making. The narrator man probably voiced them all, too. (I love the fashions!)

I do love his particular uptight accent, though.

That's really cool about the traffic lights. It's one of those things you never think about until you see something different and it's like...is that normal? I still can't get over watching a random YouTube video on Pelham and the first shot is apparently some guy standing in our driveway pointing a camera at our house. I need to send it to my mom now!
