I wonder if excessive guilt tripping can count as a form of mental abuse?  I know it drives me crazy.  Psychologist out there - what do you think?

That would be emotional/mental abuse.

Guilt tripping becomes abuse when it's intentionally done to recieve a desired outcome. I feel like people use the excuse "oh, they're just guilt-tripping me" because they are feeling bad about how they are treating said someone. But yes, guilt-trip is one of the most powerful types of persuasion and would probably clarify as abuse.

I guess. I feel like a large majority about what I'm supposed to feel bad about, I honestly don't feel bad about - it's just these constant attempts to make me feel bad about it. And that just makes me more angry and resistant to the intended reaction, and the more resistant I am to the intended reaction the more attempts at guilt tripping I get. It's a viscous downward cycle.
