I was particularly annoyed by the sudden stealth depression at the end - just as I thought it was picking up, the author reminded me that all the characters were always doomed to sing on with thorns stabbed deep into their hearts. Oh. Right. Not a happy ending in the conventional sense, then.
Thorn Birds is one of those things that enraptured me completely... When I was fourteen. Looking back all I can think is "There are 3 billion men in the world, young lady, and most of them are not self centered jackasses who have taken vows of celibacy. MOVE ON."
I liked this when I was younger, but as I've matured I got more and more irritated with the characters. I want to tell Fee to get over herself, Meggie that there are lots of other fish in the sea and Justine to stop being a sullen pill.

In the end, it just felt all so dreary and depressing and I guess I don't read for that....
