drum machine

well, my drum machine came. i'm already enjoying it very much. the thing is 14 years old and the guy shipped it in the original box and styrofoam. what luck!

so playing with my drum machine only solidifies the fact that i need gear.

yup. the black one. HR-16:B. it comes with an extra sample ROM that you can swap out. i haven't put the other on in just yet because i'm trying to find out (online) exactly what it does when you swap them out (are the sounds worth it? does it erase memory? what happens to my patterns that utilizes sounds that are on the other card? etc.)

and the grey one looks pretty lame with the white buttons, if you ask me.

well, it sounds just great. the sounds are quite dated but 1) sometimes you want dated sounds 2) you can change the tune on the sounds, which may sound boring but some of the sounds start to sound unrecognizable in the lower pitches 3) once i get some external filters/effects i'm sure i can modify whatever i want to. it kinda makes me want a drum machine that has a built in sampler so that you can run the sounds through external effects and re-sample them back into the unit. and it is definitely VERY easy to use.

so the only things i wish it had, right now are: a dedicated headphone out and very simple sampling abilities. but the price was right. the condition is mint. and it'll suit my needs for now.
