I may need to look into getting a better calender. The one featured above is what's hanging in the Yangju Citizen Football Club (양주 시민 축구단) clubhouse and far outshines the basic calender that I have at home. Oh sure, mine included the important May dates like Children's Day, Parent's Day, Teacher's Day, the Korean observance of
Buddha's Birthday, and the anniversary of the 18 May Gwangju Uprising / Gwangju Democratization Movement (5∙18 광주 민주화 운동) but leaves out a whole host of other dates that occur during the month.
Today, for example, is Ocean Day (바다의날) while yesterday was Trinity Sunday (삼위일체주일) and last week saw the passage of 성령강림절 (Pentecost) and Disaster Prevention Day (방재의 날). The week before that included Coming of Age Day (성년의날), the anniversary of the
Gwangju Democratization Movement, and Invention Day (발명의날).
Granted some of those days are religious events that I don't participate in while a few of the others are for events that receive very little publicity, but I still think it would be nice to have a calender that offers a more complete view of significant dates. Invention Day sounds like something that could have involved a few interesting events had I known to research it in advance. It may be worth noting that this year's
Seoul International Invention Fair will take place 2 December - 5 December at the COEX Mall's Pacific Hall.
Well, there are still seven more months left in the year -- plenty of time to put a new calendar to good use.
