As a general rule of thumb, people don't like immigrants. So how does one account for the rise of nativism in the 1920s? Well, originally the immigrants went unnoticed. Well I mean look at who's in your history class (Kara).

It's an excellent point/metaphor. Another one would be:

Immigration is like a sandwich with miracle whip on it. At first it's extra "tangy zip" (provided by paprika I found out the other day) is the perfect complement, but sooner or later the taste of the zip is lost in the traditional layering of meats and cheeses. Therefore the zip loses it's appreciation and begins to be discriminated against. Especially if you forget to refrigerate after opening.
