chapter 17

Mar 26, 2006 14:12

The two returned home later into the evening to find Ed sitting at the kitchen table crying.

Sami, who had walked into the kitchen first, ran to his side and pulled him into a hug. “Papa? Whats wrong? Why are you crying?”

Roy, having heard this, ran into the room. “Whats wrong Ed?”
Ed looked up a wiped away some tears. “Theres…theres no milk!” He cried, fresh tears streaming down his face.

Sami, who hadn’t known Ed long enough to find this weird, just patted him softly on the back. Roy on the other hand, stared at his lover.

“What?” He asked, shocked.

“We don’t have any milk.” Sami repeated.

“Ed, you hate milk.”

“But I really want it for some reason!”

Sami nodded. “Riza was like this. She screamed about a certain kind of strawberry tart until Jean went to get it.”

Roy now looked at her. “Are you saying that someone has to go buy milk now?”

She nodded. “Ill go, if you want to stay with him.” She offered.

Roy nodded. “If you want to.”

“I’ll go!” She said standing back up. “I like going to the corner store!”

As she walked down the street, she couldn’t help but to laugh as she passed Jean and Riza’s home. It was all so strange. Since she grew up with them, she thought she would be missing them. But she was really fine just passing them in the halls at work, having small talk about how Shelby was doing and how things were holding up with Ed and Roy… She got along with her parents so well…. It sort of shocked her.

She walked into the store, and made a bee line straight to the back of the smaller building towards where the milk was kept. She stopped surprised to find none other than Jean grabbing milk out from the freezer, his usual cigarette missing. She guessed it was store policy.

“Hey Jean!” She greeted.

“Oh, hey there mini Mustang!” he waved.

She glared. “Are you calling me small?”
“Not at all, simply stating youre the younger Mustang.”

“Whatever… Getting milk too?”

“I’m getting milk yeah..But you mean theres milk in your house?”

“Papa was crying over it. Im sure you remember how that goes…”

Jean nodded. “Yeah…I do. But Shelby was crying over this. SO I gotta be oin. See you around..”
“Bye!” She called as he walked away.

She opened the freezer herself and grabbed a gallon of milk. She went to go to the check out line when some voices floated over to her.

“Can we get this,Daddy?”
“Of course! Anything for you!”
“ Yes! I love popcorn! I like watching it pop! Pop pop pop!”

“YOU ARE SO CUTE! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!”

“I LOVE YOU TOO!”

Knowing exactly which set of father and daughter was a few isles over, she made her way to the check out line faster.

She returned home ten minutes later, and watched as the blonde man downed a full glass of milk in ten seconds or less.

A miracle in the form of a short pregnant alchemist, but no one would ever voice that aloud.
