“Did you sleep well?” Rose asked as she entered the kitchen the next morning.
“Yeah, thanks!” She grinned.
“Morning,” james mummbled walking into the kitchen in nothing but a pair of shorts and a plain white tee shirt, with his dark brown hair all over the place.
“Morning.” Bothe Sami and rose responded.
He sat down at the table and Rose set a plate in front of him, the exact same thing she had done to Sami only momments before.
“So, Sami,” James said suddenly. She looked up at him. “Would you like me to show you around town today? I’m sure it’ll only make whatever you’re doing here a little more easy…”
“Sure!” She replied with a bright smile. “ That’d be great! Thank you so much James!”
“No problem!” He said, his mouth full of eggs.
She laughed a bit at this then returned to her own plate.
After they both had a quick shower, and gotten ready for the day they left. James in nothing put a pair of pants,shoes and plain black shirt, while Sami on the othe hand was dressed as though required. Black boots,and blue uniform. Only this one was not paint spotted.
As they walked down the streets, Sami noticed James watching her.
“What?” She asked.
“It’s just..I’ve never been away from home before…Is it hard?”
“Oh,” She looked thoughtful. “ I suppose it is for first timers to be away from home.. I went on a school trip when I was twelve. It was…deffinatly something I wouldn’t like to relive. I ended up falling down a waterfall… we were at this creek, and the currant picked up, and it started pulling me down stream. My best friend chased after me to try and save me, and she ended up getting hurt even more than I did….”
He rose his eye brows. “Oh wow, is she okay?”
“She’s fine now.. Almost killed me when we returned to where our group was staying though…We were both pretty cut up, but, we’re alive!” She smiled at the memory. “ We ended up having this horrible little sparing match outside..back then, our alchemy pretty much…well, no point in lieing, we were horrible.” She paused while he laughed. “ But in answer to your question before, yes, it can be hard. This is my first time being away from home without my best friend at my side, or anyone to show me what to do…. I’m all by myself here, so that’s why ive got to do the best that I can!”
“I’ll help you in whatever way that I can”
“That sounds like you’re admitting love to her, brother!”
James stopped in his tracks. “Jack.” He said to the man who had snuck up behind them. “Ah, Sami, this is my younger brother Jack. He’s 17.”
“Hi!” Sami grinned.
“Got yourself a girlfriend,James?” jack grinned.
“She’s just a friend you moron, go away!” james said turning his back on his brother. He began to walk down the street again, but Jack chased afte them.
“Who is she?”
“I’m Sami Mustang.”
“I’m Jack! James’s brother!”
“I already told her that!” James cried spinning around again. “Go back home or something!”
“But this is much more fun!” Jack decided. “C’mon, let me hang around?”
“I said no!”
“Sami, do you mind?”
“I….Uh…” She looked at James for help.
“Jack, leave her out of this!”
“But I wanna get to know miss Mustang!”
“Jack, she’s staying with us! Later!”
“Oh, whatever..” The younger brother muttered and ran off.
“That kid…” James sighed. “Anyways, so your best friend huh? Must be pretty loyal to follow you down a waterfall…”
“That’s not all she followed me to!”
“Where else?” James asked.
“She followed me to the military!”
“Is she crazy?”
“Yeap!”
“Good match- I kid!” he laughed.
She smiled. “Yeah, me and Elysia -that’s her- we’re a pair alright. Since I accidently burned down our high school a while ago, there’s been no class at home…and we haven’t seen the final member of our group… Haru Fuery. He’s a year behind us, it would be his first year in High school now… But he gets to wait like the rest of us now!”
“Haru?” James asked.
“Yeah, personally, I think there’s something between him and Elysia… they just don’t see it yet.”
James smiled.
“ We haven’t seen him in a long time, actually…He moved away when we were in our final year of middle school… He’s supposed to be moving back to central soon. His parents separated.. I don’t know how they could have..his dad is just so sweet…but… yeah…”
James just nodded taking in all of this informatin.
“I can’t wait until I go home though,” Sami said suddenly, her eyes bright with excitement. “ my commanidng officer, Riza, and Elysia’s commanding officer set up a battle assessment for us. We’re not to sure why, but it’s happening..”
“Battle assessment?” James said surprised. “you’re gunna fight your best friend?”
“haha, yeah…”
“Is she an alchemist too?”
“Uh huh, she’s the Water Crystal Alchemist!”
“But aren’t you a fire one?”
“Yeah…”
“So you’re gunna fight water with fire? Does that actually work?”
“Oh yeah.” sami said, a glint of determinatin in her eye. “It really works.”
