6x15 and 6x16

Really really late to the party, but some random thoughts on 6x15

I think I need to stop spoiling myself like crazy (I completely blame my discovery of ontd_spnparty :P), because although the episode was funny, it wasn't THAT funny. I think it was just hyped up too much. I love Ben Edlund, I really do. I mean, I was/am a huuuuuuge fan of The Tick and I had absolutely no idea Ben Edlund wrote for this show until a few months ago! Then when I checked back to see which episodes he'd written, they were all some of my favorite ones! Bad Day at Black Rock, On the Head of a Pin, The End, My Bloody Valentine, The Third Man... even episodes like Jaynestown from Firefly, and Smile Time from Angel, all him!! I think my expectations are just getting waaaay too high whenever I hear he's writing an episode, so I suppose its partly my fault.

Anyway, back to the episode... Jared's mansion was amazing, as was Misha being pathetic and the "acting" scene was also great. I think I may have missed some of the other subtler jokes by not knowing a great deal about the fandom and inner workings of the show.

My favorite parts? Pretty much the very beginning with Balthazar, and the end with Balthazar/Cas and Raphael showdown. How much do I love Raph in a female vessel? A LOT. I LOVE IT A LOT. I hope he/she comes back and kicks all sorts of ass!

Also I really hate this show for making me ship Cas/Bal. DAMN YOU SHOW. I mean, there's all this HISTORY and KNOWING LOOKS and SMILES FROM BALTHAZAR and SEXGLARES FROM CAS and THEY WERE BESTY FRIENDS, and BALTHAZAR GIVES CAS THE WEAPONS because HE KNOWS, and "NOW THAT YOU HAVE YOUR SWORD, TRY NOT TO DIE BY IT"!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See, Dean/Cas, THIS is what you're missing this season. Although when Cas busts in with the weapons and gets all bamfy, that look on Dean's face! I'm all like, oh yeah, I remember why I love you two.... although, I AM a multishipper, so I'm going to have my cake and eat it too... Cas/Bal, Sassy, Dean/Cas, Bal/roboSam, Crowley/everyone, ITS ALL GOOD. Uh, except wincest, sorry :(

okay, now for 6x16

(deep breath)

FUUUUUUUUUUUCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RUFUS!! WHY????? WHY??????????? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO KILL MY FAVORITE PEOPLE, SHOW?? I genuinely DID NOT SEE it coming when Rufus got ganked. I was spoiled that there was going to be a hunter death, but when Gwen got killed, I was lulled into a false sense of security. DAMN IT WHERE IS MY GRUMPY OLD MEN RUFUS AND BOBBY SPINOFF WITH CAS OCCASIONALLY DROPPING BY TO GLARE AT THINGS????? Oh my god, all the amazing backstory hinted at in this episode! Rufus constantly complaining about Bobby's horrible driving skills! Rufus BEING AMAZING! THAT CONVERSATION BETWEEN BOBBY AND RUFUS WHERE RUFUS TELLS HIM HES NEVER GOING TO FORGIVE HIM, UGH MY HEART! RUFUS SAVING BOBBY, TEACHING HIM THE WAYS OF THE HUNTER LIFE!!!!! RUUUUFUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSS!!! I don't have any gifs, but that misha crying one would be very appropriate right now.

Okay, now that my incoherent rage is out of the way, this was a really great episode! Sorta cliche with, "one of us is evil" invasion of the bodysnatchers type of thing, but I'm cool with that! Interesting bit with Mother creating all new creatures, and her little snark about humanity's father abandoning them, but mothers never leave. I was hoping they'd get a better actress for her though, the one they have is wooden at best.

The writing was great, Rufus made everything better, Sampa got ganked, there were evil worms in people's ears (which, eeew. I don't get creeped out by much, but I have a thing against bugs in ears.... ugh..), great fight scenes (the Bobby/Rufus/Samuel fight was pretty sweet). I feel bad for Gwen, especially since her character barely got any development, but she could have been pretty cool! A nice strong female that isn't forced into being a love interest... but alas... the writers needed to just get rid of all the Campbell stuff I guess. It didn't even really have a nice conclusion with Samuel, you get absolutely nothing from him about his motivations other than getting Mary back, which was back in Caged Heat. They kinda messed him up, just made him too "evil". He could have had a really interesting story arc, but instead he's just blah. That comeback that Bobby gives him was pretty inspired, though. It was something like,

SAMUEL: you're the guy pretending to be their father

BOBBY: somebody ought to

OH SNAP.

Which, brings be to another annoyance I have with this season. It seems like the writers introduce these ideas, but then just abandon them because they don't know where to go with them! Ben and Lisa, the Campbells, even Sam's lack of soul to an extent. Even the Cas/Raphael storyline gets a rather lazy wrap up. Oh hey, Balthazar decided to give Cas the weapons, so there's the end of that! I suppose, at least in the case of that storyline, there was a lot of stuff going on offscreen, but it felt rushed. This whole season feels very choppy, with ideas being toyed with, but not explored fully. Kind of the same problems that plagued the first two seasons, now that I think about it.
