That's style. Last night in Austin there was a showing of a remastered print of "The Wrath of Khan", to include a showing of ten minutes of the new "Star Trek" film. About a minute into "Khan", the film burned up and the house lights came back on....
The guy in the audience audibly exclaiming "Oh. My. God." as the penny drops is priceless.
