I just finished a granny smith apple from the grocery. It's origin was Washington State. The taste was extremely tart but not too unpleasant. Its skin was thick. The flesh was dry and extremely crisp; almost tough. It was a difficult eat ( Read more... )

I'm always impressed with the sheer variety of apple flavours. A good Granny Smith is a fine apple but you have to catch them in that perfect crunchy moment between sour and squishy... mmmm!

I have heard that they are quite hard to grow organically though.

Really ought to take my apples to an apple day sometime and work out what they are. I have several big ancient trees and no idea of their names!
